Horrible sickness bug 22 weeks pregnant

Has anyone else had a sickness bug while pregnant? I’m not sure if it’s norovirus or food poisoning but I’ve been sick every 30 mins for over 12 hours..just now it’s slowing down to every hour or so but feel so sick all the time inbetween. Mega thirsty but just can’t keep anything down except tiny sips of lucozade.

Do i need to call midwife or just let it run it’s course if it’s slowing down? I think it’s food poisoning as I’d have thought my toddler would be ill if it was a bug and no-one else in the house is sick.

Bless you! There’s nothing worse than being poorly but especially when your pregnant!
I had food poisoning a few weeks ago at 21 weeks pregnant, I tried everything to keep fluid down and just couldn’t!

I called the maternity assessment at the hospital and they told me to come in, I had fluids and felt so much better after seeing them! I would maybe give them a call, you could be dehydrated from all the sickness.

Hope you feel better soon x

Thanks it seems to have finally stopped and managed to sip some dehydration sachets..think the alarm bells just go off when you’re pregnant! Don’t fancy food ever again but I’ve developed some ‘reserves’ over the last few pregnancy weeks so think I’m ok 😁 baby has been going crazy moving around I think because of the lucozade so at least she’s having fun!

I had this but was 30 weeks pregnant. I would ring your maternity unit for sure and ask if they can give you a drip to rehydrate you (not sure if they do that in the UK). Are you having any Braxton Hicks or tightenings?

When I had noro I was hospitalized as was having contractions that were stopping the baby’s heart. Basically I had no amniotic fluid around him and had been vomiting for 15 hours straight. Again could keep nothing down.
Eventually called my OB who told me to meet him at hospital. When I was put on a trace they realised every tightening was restricting the baby because there was no fluid to cushion him.
Cue a terrifying 10 minutes of attempting to stabilize both of us, a lot of drugs to stop the contractions, steroids and fluids whilst being prepped for an EMCS.
My OB was amazing and managed to bring everything under control and Ds2 was born naturally at around 38 weeks with no adverse effects.

But that has always been a cautionary tale for me to share with other pregnant women who might end up experiencing the same thing during pregnancy.

If you’re vomiting excessively, quite far along in pregnancy and experiencing any tightenings then please go and get checked out.

Ok just seen that baby wiz wriggling around so that’s a very good sign. DS2 had just stopped moving and even during my recovery for a week in hospital he was very, very quiet. If I didn’t have the trace on him for 4 days listening to his HB I’d have been a wreck as he just didn’t move!

@Strokethefurrywall oh wow that sounds terrifying, so glad to hear that you and baby were ok! I had no idea it could be that serious so appreciate you sharing your story. I’m managing to drink and keep down now but I think if that happens I’ll call in as it’s been really hard getting fluids down and don’t want to risk something like this happening.

I've had it in both pregnancies now! Hospitalised whilst on holiday in my first pregnancy at 19weeks as I was vomiting so much there was blood, ended up on a drip overnight. Bit scary as I hadn't felt baby move at this point in the pregnancy and was petrified that it was hurting her.
This time i was just as poorly at 29weeks I just rode it out and kept hydrated but was comforted by being able to feel baby move normally.

I think the advice is that if there's blood (looks like coffee grounds in your sick) go to A&E.

If your confident you're on the mend I would advise you to try to really really stay on top of your hydration in the next few days especially if the weather gets hot - baby is already taking a lot of fluid from you plus you'll be dehydrated from being ill. Hope you get better soon xxx

@LizS16 oh god that sounds awful especially when on holiday and away from home! No sign of coffee grounds I found that on google when quickly searching in between being sick...such violent retching though that I actually peed myself which has never happened before! I’m guessing it’s the extra strain of having a bowling ball on top of your bladder during pregnancy...oh it’s been a fun 24 hours Confused Drinking lots now and feeling tonnes better thanks :)
