Uterine fibroid near cervix

Grateful to hear of experience with uterine fibroids, particularly those which are close to the cervix.

I had two early scans before my 12 weeks scan (which I had at 13+3) and at each of these my fibroid (which I wasn't aware of until these sonograms) had grown in size to match the length of the baby. I have read that fibroids often increase in size with hormonal surges during the first trimester. It had also moved from the top of my uterus to be sitting almost directly over the cervix. The potential for a c-section birth was explained, but it was also explained that the fibroid may continue to move, and it may shrink in the second and third trimester.

I have my 20 week scan in about 10 days' time, so I'll hopefully have an update then. I know each person will be different, but in the meantime I'd love to hear others' experience with fibroids, whether they grew/shrank, moved/stayed in place over the cervix. Thanks.

Hi, I have a large (9.5cm) fibroid, it was discovered at a scan at 8wks, early scan was due to pain likely caused by the size of my fibroid. I am now 37wks and fibroid has stayed the same size the whole way through. When it was discovered it was at the top centre of my womb and as things have grown and stretched it now sits at the top left. I am luck to have not had any other issues caused by this. I was told early on my chances of miscarriage and pre term labour were increased to due to the fibroid but so far so good!

I had a friend who also had a fibroid, it was close to her cervix and was (if I remember) about 4cm, she was induced due to extra fluid and large baby and was able to try for a natural birth but ended up with an emergency c section in the end any way.

I have always been told that any pain or bleeding I have to go to MAU to be checked in case of changes with the fibroid so I imagine this will be the same for you.

I have tried to avoid foods that are more estrogenic and sugar to try and limit growth as fibroids feed on estrogen. I have also been told that they will not treat my fibroid post birth until I am done having children as the treatments can impact fertility. I am lucky in that I did not have symptoms of fibroids pre pregnancy, my periods were only 5 days, very regular and not overly heavy.
