Cyclizine / first tri sickness - anyone else?

Hi there- I’m 9w5 and currently feeling really unwell. I’ve been off work all week because I’m so sick and exhausted. Tbf, I was working 10-14 hour days all through my IVF and subsequent early pregnancy to the point where I was getting palpitations and panic attacks. I’m surprised at just how awful I feel. Headaches, fatigue and constant nausea. My doctor gave me cyclizine today which had made me even drowsier but hopefully that eases. Just wondered if anyone else is in the same boat. I’ve been pregnant before (made it to 9 weeks) and I was nowhere near this ill. I guess I just would like some reassurance to know I’m not alone!

Sorry you're suffering, nausea is the worst. I've been on cyclizine for all of my pregnancies and found it helped but used to make me quite spaced out with the first one in the morning. I used to take it while still in bed and then get up slowly as it started to kick in and the nausea subsided slightly...

A positive, I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and on just one cyclizine a day, having been on 3 a day at 6 weeks. But also, with a previous pregnancy I never made it off the tablets, the sickness subsided but the nausea never really left me Confused

I think every pregnancy is different and take it easy, sounds like you've had a stressful run up which your body needs to recover from too!

And if after a bit you're not getting relief from the cyclizine or the side effects are too much then do go back to your GP. There are other medications they can try :)

I also found iced water or eating ice cubes really helpful, couldn't cope with water straight out of the tap. I've also eaten a lot of crisps in place of all meals, and scotch pancakes, and I also discovered fizzy flavoured water was sometimes good too...

When I first started taking cyclizine it totally knocked me out, but after a few days the drowsiness wore off so hopefully it won’t be too much of an issue for you.

I felt much better by 14 weeks - I remember because I was 14.5 weeks on Christmas Day and while I did have to snack a bit in the morning because lunch was later, I ate pretty much a normal Christmas dinner. Maybe a smaller portion but the smell of the meal, and eating the various bits didn’t cause me any significant nausea.

One thing that really really helped my nausea was granny smith apples. Something about the sour juiciness seemed to cut through any gross feeling in my mouth, and it seemed to settle my stomach. There were many days where I just nibbled slowly on one for hours.

Just started on cyclizine and have had one of the worst days so far! I'm hoping it gets better soon 😢

I was on cyclizine for 4 weeks and it just didn't get any better, it made me worse due to side effects (spaced out and sick) so I changed to metoclopramide which has been loads better so I recommend that incase you don't get on well with the first one x

Also on cyclizine here and needing it most days, you are definitely not alone! I'm 14 weeks so really hoping it all subsides soon.

Thank you all for replying. I feel so much better knowing that it’s not just me. :)

I was taking 3 cyclizine per day, and when at my worst went to ambulatory care for fluids and iv cyclizine. It made me dizzy and tired ... I also started promethazine which gave me double vision. I randomly decided not to take any one day and felt way better without them! I went from not eating and barely drinking, to manageable nausea all day... able to eat and drink (random things).
I think for some, meds upset the stomach even more... but it's trial and error.
