What do you eat in a day?

I'm currently 16+6 and my appetitite has gotten out of control. If I gave myself the chance, I'd eat nonstop all day.

I used to have an eating disorder and find it hard to just let myself go around food. At the same time, I'm worried that I'm being over restrictive and the hunger is my body's way of telling me that I need to eat more.

I have been tracking my calories for a few days and seem to be eating between 1400 and 1600. I'm 16+6 and have only put on 3 pounds so far. I had no sickness in the first trimester, so that isn't an excuse for not gaining.

Yesterday breakfast was a bowl of fruit and nut weetabix minis with semi skimmed milk and an apple. Lunch was a ham salad sandwich and some carrot sticks. I had a 2 finger kitkat mid afternoon, then dinner was a chicken breast, 3 new potatoes, carrots, peas, sweetcorn and gravy and then I had another apple and a bag of snack a jacks later on in the evening.

I'm trying to pick healthier choices, as I know I'd feel guilty if I ate too much junk or fatty food. It sounds silly, but after an eating disorder, it's hard to know what "normal eating" is. Even once recovered, I guess I always had a dieting mindset. I'm eating more now than I did pre-pregnancy, so when my stomach growls, asking for more food, it seems like any more would be excessive.

What does everyone else eat in a typical day? Maybe it'd help me to compare my diet to your typical pregnancy diets and so not feel too guilty if I splurge on treats!

For what it’s worth, yesterday I had

Two sweet waffles, butter and tea for breakfast. (Still feel too sick to eat anything else in the morning).
Tea, apple, chocolate biscuit for snack.
Bolognese made with soya mince and some cheese, a pretty big portion for lunch.
A peach with a big spoon of full fat Greek yogurt.
3 halloumi tacos, big salad, homemade chips for dinner.
Loads of cups of tea.

Not that healthy but not awful, and at 16 weeks I’ve gained less than a kilo!

Great to hear your stress is easing, look after yourself. 1400 calories isn’t ideal during pregnancy, but hopefully you’ll be able to add some extras in now things are calming down.

I would try and add an extra 2 snacks at least to your day. Something healthyish but higher in calories.

I'm 11 weeks, and this thread has made me realise that i really need eat better. All i've been craving is carbs and sweets so for example yesterday i had:

Breakfast: 2 doughnuts (chocolate and jam) with a decaf coffee
Lunch: Mcdonalds chicken selects and chips and an apple pie
Dinner: Rice and lamb curry
and lots of chocolate in between.

I've hardly been eating any fruit or veg so i better start doing that!

LAR96 · 30/07/2021 11:54

@momo20 I hardly ate fruit or even had breakfast before i found out i was pregnant, i know include this but still eat stuff i would eat before like chcocolate/crisps!

I drink more water now too, whereas before i hardly drank water!
We was healthy enough to get pregnant so try to not worry too much :)

Hi there... I just wanted to add, you shouldn't feel afraid of talking to your doctor / midwife about your ED history and how you are coping with the changes to your body. You can ask to see a dietitian who will be able to reassure you and offer individualised advice based on your activity levels. There are also some really helpful dietitians on social media www.instagram.com/mummynutrition/ who have tips - this one is responsive to DMs.

You are incredibly brave and strong to recover from and ED and, I am sure, will be a wonderful mother. Just don't be afraid to ask for reassurance from HCPs if it is what you need.

It totally depends for me.

Today:
Breakfast - One slice of toast covered thickly with peanut butter; one banana; one Skyr yoghurt

Lunch - Three large crackers with Philadelphia and cherry tomatoes

Dinner - Leek, Potato and Celeriac soup with buttered bread.

To drink: lots of flavoured, carbonated water; orange juice

Yesterday:
Breakfast: bowl of Cheerios and a Skyr yoghurt

Snack: an orange

Lunch: Two slices of toasted bread, one with strawberry jam and the other with Lindt chocolate spread (oops - it's too good!); another Skyr yoghurt

Dinner: Leek, Potato and Celeriac soup with buttered bread

Snack: half a small melon

To drink: one and a half small bottles of Coke Zero; lots of flavoured carbonated water; orange juice

For me, it's totally variable. I try to eat the five a day and avoid sugar, but I'm not always very good at it.

19 weeks pregnant here...

Breakfast- Two pieces of toast with marmite
Lunch- Tuna and cheese jacket potato
Snack- Cupcake & hot chocolate
Dinner- Mediterranean veg pizza
Snack- Tangerine

Grew one healthy baby last October and nearly half way with the next so even without the healthiest of diets I think that’s doing ok! I didn’t put on anymore weight than needed and just ate whatever I fancied in moderation :)

I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes so to keep my sugars under control I pretty much eat the same thing every day plus gallons of water.

Brek : chia seed pudding, I do not enjoy this

Lunch: cherry tomatoes, cucumber, babybel and chicken breast slices

Snack: 2 squares very dark choc

Dinner: penang curry and 5 gyōza

Snack : hartleys 10 calorie jelly and handful of almonds

Boring but working to stay diet controlled, gained 9lb so far at 32 weeks but baby alone is half of that!

Scirocco · 31/07/2021 00:47

@Pitstop1986 the universe aligned brilliantly and team lunch at work today was... Domino's!

summerhillgang · 31/07/2021 08:26

Yesterday

Chicken bone broth plus probiotics

Whole grain toast with thick layer of peanut butter, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds & flax, dehydrated mango, decaf Earl Grey tea

Two slices of pizza, satsuma, cherries

Smoothie with banana, blueberry, cacao, macadamia, pecans, cashew milk, maple syrup, oats, flax

Humous, minced lamb, pine nuts, bread, stuffed red pepper with lentils & green barley, a feta and spinach parcel, a few bites of a chicken swarma, two pieces of baklava and teaspoon of full fat cows milk thick cream

summerhillgang · 31/07/2021 08:30

I'm 31 weeks and having to eat more (4-5 times a day) but trying to eat stuff with lots of nutritional value, sometimes failing and succumbing to the sugar bug.

I've been eating pretty healthy for last 3 months but first 3 months was a complete write off. If you're in your first trimester just go with it, it gets better and normality will return.

Suffered from ED when I was younger and always worry about putting on weight but just going with my cravings and making sure we have lots of healthy things in the house to snack on.

WeepingWinnie · 31/07/2021 08:38

I can't remember much about what I ate in my first pregnancy, but in my second, I ate mozzarella and tomatoes. I would say they were 'drizzled in olive oil, but they were saturated with about half a bottle of the stuff. I don't think I ate anything else for 9 months of that pregnancy. I think that was also the pregnancy when I could only drink caffeine-free diet Coke.

MyDogIsCool · 31/07/2021 13:30

I'm really struggling with food at the moment, most days I have a ham sandwich, maybe some crisps, and hard boiled sweets (helps me to stop feeling sick)
Other days I might have an evening meal, but that's probably twice a week, at the most.. the thought of food makes me feel so sick, not anything in particular.. just food in general.. is this something I should mention to the midwife?
P.S. sorry to jump on your post!
