Any tips, tricks or things to buy?

I have a 2 year old. Already invested in a slow cooker...!

I'm in the same sort of boat - older child, pregnant. So welcome any more tips! So far I am -

  • sorting anything vaguely adminy due in the months following birth (tax, remortgaging, insurance, birthday cards)
  • buying a second small freezer and filling it with ready meals
  • sorting clothes from DD 0-6m so they're all ready
  • buying and storing anything I think we'll need - random small things like fruit puree that my daughter has on her porridge, nappies, wipes etc

That's a great list!

Cook is really delicious! There’s a concession in one of the little shops near me. I was also in a supermarket at yellow sticker time yesterday and wondered about buying up lots of discounted bits then, since they would all go in the freezer anyway.

Buy all white clothes for new baby and bung them all in together in a hot wash.
Buy in birthday cards and presents 4-6 months ahead.
Get on top of life admin.
Declutter.
Have some meals ready in freezer.
Buy in or make some treats for older child hide and have in reserve so they feel special and can easily be occupied. Sticker books, reading books, personalised photo album, special snacks, crafting ideas/activities (cheerio necklaces, decorating biscuits, making giant mural of footprints on old wallpaper in the garden, have some cartoon films ready Toy Story, Telly Tubbies, Balamory etc for when really desperate.

Get your older child into a solid routine and then let baby fit around that, we've found they're much more adaptable than a toddler 😂

In my second trimester we went through all our junk cupboards. Taking one a weekend, emptying them throwing out what we didn't need and adding better storage in preparation for another human being in the house with a mountain of stuff!

A good size tote bag for carrying essentials around with you in the house freeing up your hands for baby and a cup of tea!

Make sure you have a chair that can you get in and out of easily while holding a baby.

(We went to IKEA after being g out of hospital two days!)

Amazon prime
Cook ready meals
Sort all clothes into size bags as they grow out of them then when the younger child reaches that age you just grab the bag.
Have a range of birthday cards and thank you cards in. I bought a box from amazon
Buy the next size up in clothing for you toddler
A double buggy

If you have the room in your freezer make up “dump and go” bags for the slow cooker - just things like chicken curry, beef stew etc. Lay them flat on a baking tray in your freezer and when baby’s here just pull one out the night before to leave in your fridge then when defrosted Chuck in the slow cooker and it saves all the chopping and less washing up!
I second buying sticker and activity books for the older DC - or even a magnifying glass and “bug catcher” kit for all the aimless walking around with the pram trying to get baby to sleep
