Pregnant and ate a bad apple

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and started eating an apple. The first bite was fine and I swallowed it. I got to the next bite and realised that it didn't taste very good and spat it out. I tried another part, thinking it was just bruised, but that wasn't great and spat that out. Should I be worried about it at all?

No.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 27/07/2021 11:34

No. Total waste of time to worry about it.

Have you been anxious throughout your pregnancy in general? If you are worried about a slightly off apple doing damage it might be worth mentioning to your mosque that you’re struggling.

Mosque Confused

I had my first midwife appointment last week and they're aware of my anxiety. I'm an anxious person in general but more so with this pregnancy as I had two miscarriages at 5+2 and 4+2. This is the furthest I have ever been. I should be happy because I've had an EPAC scan today and everything is how it should be. I'm constantly worried that something is going to happen and I'm going to miscarry all over again.

IVe been there and do get how tough the early weeks can be after a previous loss.

But honestly the best thing to do is accept that while there’s certain we can’t control, worrying over every tiny thing is going to drive you up the wall. Rationally, what would eating a slightly off piece of apple actually do?

Rationally? Possibly nothing? Possibly a slight upset stomach? I don't really know. I always go with the worst case scenario.

And you're right, I probably am driving myself up the wall. I'm a teacher and off work right now for the summer. I'm trying to focus on writing a novel but Dr Google keeps calling my name.

Dont Google! Stick to basic NHS stuff (which for the record I give way over cautious and simplified) but you could google anything and you’ll find some bullshit article about how it can cause something or other.

I know. I need to focus my attentions on something else. It's not healthy to be worried all the time.

Now I'm worried that occasionally I have had flaxseed on my cereal on a morning. Some sites say not to have it in pregnancy. Others say that it's fine in small doses.

I think all pregnant women have more than likely consumed something they we've not been aware is not recommended for whatever reason. I do have anxiety about things and just the other day after eating microwavable popcorn I was having a bit of a panic after googling it! The further along I am though, I'm finding the less I'm worrying.

notacooldad · 07/08/2021 11:16

You should be worried that you think this is even a thing to be worried about!

dementedpixie · 07/08/2021 11:18

Stick to the info on the NHS site or you'll drive yourself crazy. Have never heard of flaxseed being an issue.

What's the issue with popcorn @Trinacham?

Trinacham · 07/08/2021 11:32

@dementedpixie 'Microwavable popcorn may contain toxic chemicals, diacetyl, perfluorooctanoic acid that are harmful. So, it's better to avoid having them while pregnant.'

dementedpixie · 07/08/2021 11:48

If its not on the nhs site then I would ignore other scaremongering sites (normally from the USA)

BigGooseyLucy · 07/08/2021 11:49

Do not worry ! If you are worried though call your midwife for reassurance. I panicked at everything I ate for the first 12 weeks and then the anxiety faded away !

Suzi888 · 07/08/2021 11:51

You’ll be fineFlowers

Comedycook · 07/08/2021 11:53

In the kindest possible way the next 31 weeks will be horrendous if this worries you. I think you need to get help for your anxiety. What possible risk do you think a bruised apple poses?

I think it's because I'm not at the 12 week period. Once I have my dating scan at 13 weeks, I think I will feel a lot better.

You stressing about the apple is more damaging to your pregnancy than the apple itself.

I would contact your community midwife and ask to be referred to the perinatal MH team if you're feeling this anxious. Support is available!

BigGooseyLucy · 07/08/2021 12:12

Exactly, once I had my scan by eating worries faded away and hopefully your worries will too. Once your scan is done if your anxiety doesn't improve then have a chat with the midwife/doctor about your anxiety. Fingers crossed for you Smile

TertiusLydgate · 07/08/2021 12:14

You have irrational anxiety. Speak to your midwife about it.

PercyPigAndMe · 07/08/2021 12:15

Good God woman, just stop. You'll drive yourself mad. I'd be seeking advice and support for the anxiety not flaxseed eating or scoffing mouldy apples.

You could eat all manner of soft cheeses and have a couple of glasses of wine a week if you so wanted to. Nothing would happen.

And I'm sure that in the whole history of babies, not one was troubled by flaxseeds.

Plumtree391 · 07/08/2021 12:24

Nothing to worry about, it will just pass through your digestive system normally. From what you say you didn't eat much anyway.

CorianderBee · 07/08/2021 12:25

Just remember that many babies survive in the womb despite women not knowing they're pregnant! People drink, smoke, eat eggs and sushi, get food poisoning. Loads of things that harm and yet babies survive.

So don't worry about a slightly off apple.
