Has anybody bought one of these? Im torn between this one and a Bugaboo, but im not sure I can justify the money on a Bugaboo. The pramette seems to have won lots of awards, and its lightweight. Will also be buying he carseat to go with it. Any pro's or con's??

I love my pramette. It's so handy having a buggy that can be turned into a proper rear-facing pram with no need for a detachable carry-cot.

It's robust (no repairs over three years and two children), and reasonably lightweight. I like the fact that it folds down quite small (umbrella fold).

The car seat is great, as it clips onto a base in the car, which makes it easy to fit. It's good to be able to take a sleeping baby out if the car and clip them straight on to the pramette.

Actually, I really can't fault it.

I thought about a Bugaboo, and having tried out friends' Bugaboos I think we made the right choice. I know of a couple of people who have been dissatisfied with their Bugaboos and have exchanged them for different makes (Jane, as it happens). I know of three other people with pramettes, and they all love them.

Well all that sounds promising. I know mamas and papas make them, but are they the only place that sells them?

I know wpoplw who have prameetes and they all really like them. I'm pretty sure you can buy them in Argos.

Ours has been OK. Not the lightest, but sturdy enough.

I would say that the carseat needs some extra head padding for a newborn, otherwise they rattle around in it a bit.

something like this

sfxmum · 27/11/2007 12:08

I have one now 2.6yrs old and we still use it. relatively sturdy, not heavy can use in public transport.
easy to clean/ wash; good for newborn and toddler.
have seldom folded it so can't advise on that
keeping it for next one

mumzyof2 · 27/11/2007 12:11

Does any carseat fit it then?

agree on the car seat bit. my dd was opnly 4lb 3 when born and did not fit in the seat till she was nearly 9 weeks old as it was too upright , her head flopped and at first when she sat in it her legs where that short the crotch strap was in line with her feet. I do love it now she is 6 months old but if you think you might have a little baby think twice because of the car seat. Mamas and papas have a factory shop in huddersfield which sells discounted prams etc.also ebay shop thefactoryshop2006 check it out. But be careful when you buy one they changed the design slightly and the newer model has got a cover over the vent in the fabric hood to stop light coming through unfortunately mine didnt

soremummy · 27/11/2007 12:12

you need the one that goes with it cos it is called a gmatic system

soremummy · 27/11/2007 12:14

make sure you try car seat in car before buying cos it fits in our grand scenic but not in our volvo!

mumzyof2 · 27/11/2007 12:17

In huddersfield? Why are they discounted? Im near blackpool, im not sure how far away that is?
So there doesnt seem to be many faults?? Iv heard the carseat is a bit bulky around the head, and doesnt leave much room for he babies head, because of the side impact protection. Is that right?

mamapas and papas have a factory shop in huddersfield they sell discounted prams etc sometimes its cos of discountinued colours etc. probably about an hr or 1.5 hrs to their shop from blackpool. my daughter is now nearly 7 mths weighs 11lb and she is in newborn clothes and there is still loads of room around the head bit for her and you can remove it if you want later cos its like a liner

soremummy · 27/11/2007 12:21

sorry for typos baby on knee

SpawnChorus · 27/11/2007 12:24

try the glasgow pram centre for cheapest prices (online, but they have an actual shop so John Lewis can do a price match )

deaconblue · 27/11/2007 13:06

try www.kiddicare.com. We saved about £80 on our pramette. Fab pram which we still use every day for ds (19 months). Friends who bought bugaboos had trouble when their babies were too big for the flat position and too light for the front facing. They ended up with 4 month babies in Maclarens.

LiegeAndLief · 27/11/2007 13:12

We have one and I like it, but we don't have the car seat as it wouldn't fit in our car. I've seen friend's car seats and to be honest I don't like them, the baby seems very upright and it doesn't look comfy for a small baby. Couple of other negative points for me have been I can't steer it with one hand and it's not brilliant over roughish ground (just the park, not up a mountain!). Having said that there are lots of good points, it is very good value and I definitely don't regret getting it.

Mamas and papas are not the only place that sells them, we got ours from an independent pram shop. There are plenty of places on line if you do a search, you might get a bargain...

frisbyrat · 27/11/2007 13:24

They are actually Italian originally, so you may get a better deal searching under their Italian name, Peg Perego!

spugs · 27/11/2007 16:05

i liked these but ended up going for the bugaboo as you can have it facing you in pushchair mode.

daisynova · 28/11/2007 17:26

I was really impressed with the Pliko Pramette - originally went in to look at the Ultima and decided that was far to big and cumbersome. Had a demonstration of the Pliko and love it. Will be ordering it in the new year!
