Hi all,

Last night i went into my delievery ward after not feeling much movement through out the day. I was monitor on a ctg for an hour and a half, but no real movement was felt so i was instructed to drink a litre of water and walk around for half an hour and then they would try again. When rigged up again there was more movement, but the doctor decided to do a doppler scan anyway to check the blood supplys to the baby as i was booked for this for thursday anyway as i am currently being monitor for a undersized baby.

When she did the doppler, afterwards she shew me the picture of the blood supply (whether from my main arteries to my uterus or the umbilical cord im not sure) and said there was a small dip, that wasnt anything to worry about but they would need to keep an eye on it and to check it again on thursday. I asked what this ment and she just waffled about the placenta (unfortunatly im in germany so the english is good but a little confusing sometimes).

I know its nice to be told its nothing to worry about, but i would rather know what the poss problem could be. Has anyone got any experience of this to help me understand what could be going on here???????

Not sure exactly in your situation but I had similar scans in hospital with pre-eclampsia, where they were looking for reduced or reversed flow from the placenta to the baby. This would have obvious problems for the baby ie not getting enough nutrients and restricted growth. The reduced flow was not a huge worry as long as we were being carefully monitored, but reversed flow would have needed delivery I think (sorry, struggling to remember!). I'm sure that as you are being monitored carefully there is nothing to worry about.

Sorry was going to say that I had reduced flow because of my pre-eclampsia damaged placenta - I don't know anything about other causes.
