Hi All

Following a fairly large bleed the week prior the sonographer found a SCH and I've pretty much had a constant light bleed since then. They didn't seem worried at all and told me to expect some more bleeding but to contact the clinic if it gets worst. I wish I had asked more questions at the time but tbh was so relieved that the little one was ok. I'm just wondering if anyone on here has any advice? I don't have a midwife appointment for another two weeks and when ever I call anyone I am being made to feel like I am overreacting a bit. This is my second pregnancy. First was ID high risk twins which flew by like a breeze so I wasn't expecting this pregnancy to be so worrying.

Hi @Katieandthekids - I was also diagnosed with an SCH last week after light but very red bleeding. I had a similar experience in that the nurse at the EPU (I'm only 6+4 currently) was very clear that it wasn't harmful to me or the baby and I should just carry on as normal, and that more bleeding was possible but not to worry unless it was really heavy. I've since only had dark brown spotting so not too bad. I was wondering about exercise, I usually go for a run once a week and assume that's still ok (I forgot to ask the nurse specifically), but am planning to do half my usual distance and slower than normal, just see how it goes - if it triggers more bleeding then I'll switch to lower impact stuff.

Apologies I don't have any advice, just wanted to chip in and say you're not alone! I hope everything goes really smoothly for you from here on out.

@Katieandthekids I had a small hematoma at about 7 weeks. I had a bleed then just spotting on and off for about 2 weeks. After that nothing, by my 12 weeks scan it was gone. I am now 34 weeks with nothing since.
I was told not to strain lifting so at the time did not lift or carry heavy shopping or my two year old. I tried to rest when I could but did just carry on with normal life. I hope you have a similar outcome. Take care xx

I had a SCH with my last pregnancy

The first I knew was a huge gush of blood at 11 weeks, which I was convinced was a MC

Thankfully a scan showed a strong heartbeat and all fine

My SCH was classified as ‘moderate’ because it half the size of the placenta, so there was a risk of it growing and causing the placenta to detach and therefore a miscarriage

But other than dark spotting every day for about 5 weeks, I had no other issues, and by 16 weeks, it had disappeared on the scan

Rest of the pregnancy was totally uneventful and normal

Wishing you lots of luck Flowers

Forgot to say…
I was told to absolutely avoid swimming, sex and baths

The bleeding causes the cervix to open slightly, and this means there is an infection risk

I also read articles from a few other doctors who said as well as no sex, no orgasms full stop, because the contractions can cause the SCH to worsen but I wasn’t specifically told this by my doctor
I don’t think I would take the risk though

Thanks so much all. @Sparechange see we've not been told any of that!

How many weeks are you?

I had this at 8 week private scan (although hadn't had any bleeding) - she said it wouldn't likely cause any problems as it was only just over 1cm and should resolve itself by 12 week scan. Sure enough it had gone by 12 week scan.

It is essentially where implantation occurs, and I think they are only concerned if it is particularly large and would suggest bed rest. The fact they didn't seem concerned suggests that it should be relatively small?

Garman · 27/07/2021 17:52

I had this, huge gush of blood at 6 weeks followed by many weeks of spotting, scan at 8 weeks showed haematoma that was the same size as the sac. I wasn't told to change anything at all in terms of exercise, rest, etc, just to come back for scan at 10 weeks to check it. It was the same size but starting to heal, at 12 weeks it was gone.

@Amz6219 I'm now 15 weeks. They spotted it at my dating scan at 14 weeks. I had an earlier private scan and it wasn't there (neither was the bleeding) the first bleed happened a few days after.

I'm not sure how big it was it looked like a small lump really.

I've just gone nearly 48 hours with no bleeding at all so I'm hoping that means it's healing!

Oooh yes sounds promising!

I definitely think it mustn't be so big that it is a concern if they didn't suggest you alter exercise etc. so by 20 week scan it will hopefully have resolved itself - fingers crossed! x

Hi,

I had a massive bleed at 13 weeks and bled every day for 4 weeks after it.
I then bled again at 30 and 37 weeks. My DS was induced at 38 weeks because of all the bleeding and is now a happy and healthy 9 week old boy.

It is really anxiety provoking but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad news. I was terrified the whole way through my pregnancy, but then ended up used to the bleeding! Good luck and I hope you have a healthy pregnancy.

Katieandthekids · 28/07/2021 19:39

@RoseA89 that's good to hear it all worked out. Bleeding again today but so far, apart from the first time it happened (healthy scan since) it's been light.
