Waters broke 24 hours ago, no contractions and don't want to be induced

Has anyone experienced their waters breaking and going into labour naturally after 24 hours?

I'm a planned home birth and everything is going well so far in terms of movements, temperature and clear waters. This is my 2nd and I want to avoid induction as I had an awful time with my first.

Looking for some other experiences to help me keep positive that I can have an uninterrupted birth?

@Kindlynow

Yes, also got sepsis and baby was unwell for 10 days too..
This was the worse part for us. I was in HDU and she was in SCBU. Not the early bonding days I had hoped for.

I've been checked and all is fine, consultant is happy for me to stay home and be monitored by community team. In the morning if no baby still then will discuss induction

It will always be your choice at the end of the day but the medical advice is there for a reason. I have no experience of induction so please take this with a pinch of salt but I wonder if perhaps your first experience was bad just because it was your first time labouring? I had such a painful labour with my first. It was relatively fast so didn’t end up with any pain relief and I couldn’t comprehend the pain I had. Second time around I knew I could do it without so wanted to try and it was such a positive, empowering experience. My body knew what to do. I hope all goes well for you but please think carefully and listen to the advice. Make sure you understand the adverse outcomes possible
Should you choose not to be induced.

Please be careful.
My first my waters broke and labour was very slow. They were to busy to help induce me or actually care, measure temperate etc. Was just left in a room with my husband (once past 4 cm).
My daughter was born not breathing was born with pneumonia, spent first 4 days in a incubator. Lots of antibiotics was treated for meningitis as they couldn’t test until she was stabile.
I don’t want to scare you. However just wanted you to know.

I would be induced.

LittleBearPad · 24/07/2021 21:21

I had this twice. Second induction was soooo much better than the first. Pessary did the trick. DS arrival was worrying as he wasn’t breathing but did so very quickly

Vickim03 · 24/07/2021 21:47

I had this with my second. I was called in for induction after day 3 but was sent for a c section due to having a previous section. I’d ring maternity and talk your options through with the nurses. The main worry at the moment is the risk of infection as baby has no protection now waters are gone.

Peekay12 · 24/07/2021 22:16

I would ask to be induced ASAP. My first baby was born with pneumonia which developed into sepsis as my waters had broke for almost 31 hours. She was in the NNU for 4 days then the High dependency unit. Her CRP level was 66 so she needed a lumbar puncture to exclude meningitis which it did. With my second, I made sure history did not repeat itself. I don't want to scare you but I feel you should be informed.

Baby born at home safely this morning. Neither of us have any signs of infection.
Thanks for the advice.
