Covid vaccine at 37 weeks

Has anyone had the covid vaccine late pregnancy and was it fine / birth to healthy baby?
I'd previously decided not to have it based on conversation with midwife but obstetrician recommended I consider it now.
I'm not high risk in other ways and my main exposure is ds1 at nursery but existing covid rates are concerning...
Am worried if I have it now and go into labour with a fever as a result of the jab, I'd be classed as potentially having it. Equally would protection at birth be enough to be worth having it rather than waiting.

On the flip side I'm booked for c sec at 39+6 if baby isn't here by then, and midwife said I should then wait 6 weeks recovery before having a jab which would put me back quite a bit. The 2nd jab
wouldn't be until Nov after everyone else no longer isolating etc.

I'd have your first jab before birth if I were you, although I'm not sure on what basis your midwife I'd recommending waiting 6weeks after. I have vaccinated people only 10 days after surgery, it's not a contraindication.

The sooner you can get some protection the better, you can't be the best mum you can be if you catch covid and are unwell whilst also trying to recover post section!

Can’t really give any advice but in the same boat as you. 37 weeks and c-section booked for 39 +4. I’m being sooo careful now so not too worried about me catching covid before the baby is here. Mainly would like him to get some sort of immunity because I’m already worrying about him having no immune system. My sister had a c-section and had the jab 5 weeks later. Have seen others on here have had it at 2/3 weeks. I’m not brave enough to take it before baby is out though, just want him to be here okay first, as much as I’m sure it would be fine. Wishing I didn’t need to wait 6 weeks though!

@sarah13xx I'm in the same boat as you! Got my section on 9th aug! I'm isolating from the world lol til baby is here and then will get jab done. I don't know if I've read your comment right or not but do we have to wait 6 weeks post section to get the jab???? I was planning to get the jab ASAP after section. 🤔 xx

The midwife said she would recommend waiting until 6 weeks after to allow for the full recovery period, so your immune system isn't trying to cope with both at once I think.

I am being fairly careful l, not seeing anyone inside etc, but I'm not completely isolating and do have ds1 at nursery

@lukiebebe OMG THATS MY DATE TOO! 😬 I don’t think we officially do have to, OP has said she was advised that by a midwife but when I asked my consultant she just gave the standard answer of ‘the vaccine is safe to have at any time, there’s no blood clot risk etc’. So I was just going to wait a few weeks. Will need to see whether I’m on the anti clotting jabs too after the section. I’m isolating from the world too, getting so bored of the sight of my house, especially in this heat wave 🙈 They did tell me they’d contact me and tell me an official date to isolate from before coming in but haven’t heard anything. Want to be careful though just in case something happens early, so I can still have my section and still have my partner in with me

I’d just wait completely fully isolate tbh if it was me and it’s a matter of 2 weeks…. But I’m not brave enough to take the vaccine in pregnancy (personal choice and not judging anyone who is wanting to have it!)

Including not seeing people outside etc, shopping delivered. It’s literally 2 weeks

Might not be an option for you but you have pretty much zero risk then and your partner will have no risk of getting it either before delivery and potentially missing the birth- but I’d do that vaccine or no vaccine I think! As can still catch it after one dose. I had surgery last October and the hospital made me isolate for 2 full weeks before hand. (Which was fine until my consultant got covid so op put back and it ended up being 4 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ We survived though)

The 6 week post section thing I’d be asking consultant about. Leeds teaching hospitals did a live event with one of their consultants this week who said there’s no need to wait after delivery and you can have it straight away if you wanted to.

So hard when there is still so much conflicting advice!!

I wish you all the luck in the world whichever you decide to do, not long until your little one is here now :)

I had mine at 37 weeks, decided I would rather deal with side effects before baby was here but luckily didn’t have any. Feel really assured by science that it was ok, would have gone for sooner but was eight weeks after first jab. It’s a personal decision though.

Italiandreams · 24/07/2021 09:50

I have a toddler and a husband who is a key worker so no chance of isolation here , and wanted to lessen my rush of having Covid as much as possible.

Nerel · 26/07/2021 17:14

I went ahead in the end... as you say Italiandreams one less thing to worry about hopefully!
