ECV without injection??

I’m contemplating getting my breech baby turned next week but I’m really concerned about the injection that they give. I already have generalised anxiety disorder which causes me to have a pretty high heart rate in medical situations so the fact that the muscle relaxant can make your heart beat really really fast terrifies me.

Has anyone had their baby turned without the injection??

Xx

They should be risk assessing you for the use of this drug. Have you explained what you're worried about?

In theory it can be done without but it's less likely to work as far as I understand it.

@BertieBotts no, I only found out through my own research but I will be sharing my concerns when at the appointment next week and to be honest I don’t think they’ll give me the drug when they take my pulse.

Yes, just ask them on the day. You can always change your mind about doing it at the last minute. I am booked in for one on Monday and have read a few things since which I am planning to discuss on the morning of the appointment. If I'm not happy then I won't go ahead. I am not hugely concerned about having to have a c-section, although would rather avoid due to the recovery time as I also have a toddler.

I believe if they don't use the muscle relaxant, then it's advisable to use some kind of pain relief, either epidural/spinal block or gas and air, so that this allows you to relax. It's not as effective as the muscle relaxant, but it's something.

I would say it'd be unlikely they would be able to turn baby without your uterus being relaxed. It's only 50% successful anyway so your chances are reduced. Definitely ask at your appointment but I would be prepared for it not to go ahead. It's all your choice though so if you're not comfortable, then you are well within your rights to say no.
