8 weeks empty sac

Wanted: 8 weeks empty sac success stories.

Had an internal ultrasound at 8 weeks which showed an empty sac (no yolk sac or fetal pole. Gestation sac measuring 13 x 17 x 11mm.)
I’ve been asked to come back in two weeks time to repeat the ultrasound. (I’m certain of exactly how many weeks and days I am and I did not ovulate late). No bleeding or cramping.

Has this happened to you and you went on to have a successful pregnancy?

Thank you to those willed to share 💕

Hi @heyhop, sorry to hear you saw an empty sac.

From your measurements, it sounds like you are measuring about 6 weeks. If this is the case, then an empty gestation sac is perfectly possible in a normal pregnancy. I had an empty sac at 6 weeks and am now 17 weeks.

Is there any possibility that you ovulated at a different time to what you expected?

Thanks for this! It does give me some hope but I use Clearblue Advanced Fertility Monitor which gave me 'peaks' on my usual ovulation days and I know exactly when the first day of my last period was.

I used clear blue ovulation kits and still ended up 2 weeks out! Bodies are weird. Hopefully there will be something there when you go back.

H8theW8 · 21/07/2021 14:08

Like @SheABitSpicyToday I used CB Digital OPKs and got 2 peaks, 10 days apart. The first peak was my body trying to ovulate but it didn't for whatever reason so tried again 10 days later. Unless you are tracking BBT you can't be sure of when you ovulated so it could well have happened later.

Best of luck for you next scan, I hope it just turns out that your dates are wrong 🤞🏼

Thank you! Which Clearblue kit/sticks did you use?

Thanks again Smile

I would have thought that with the Clearblue Advanced Fertility Monitor measuring estrogen and luteinising hormone it was a good indication + with the first date of last period, but are you saying you would still need to use BBT to be accurate?

Thanks again!

@heyhop I used the CB Digital Connected OPKs which also track both estrogen and LH. OPKs only detect a surge in hormones. Most of the time you will ovulate within 12-36hrs of your peak but not always. Sometimes your body just doesn't quite get there and the hormones will tail off and try again later. This can be due to stress, illness, a number of things to be honest. The only way to can tell for sure if/when you ovulated is by religiously monitoring your BBT (doesn't suit everyone as it depends on a solid sleep pattern and taking your temp at the same time each day, as soon as you wake from your longest sleep) x

I had that, years and years ago . D and c at 9 weeks, followed by period the following month, followed immediately by successful pregnancy.

Oh I see! Thanks for this, will look into buying the Ava BBT bracelet perhaps! Thank you again.

I find in these situations working out when you got your first positive pregnancy test can help give you an indication (if you tested early and often enough). Unfortunately when I was in a similar situation, I was a bit of a serial tester as TTC so I knew I had my first positive pregnancy test 5 weeks earlier, which would have made me at least 8 weeks and not possible to be 6 weeks as I wouldn’t have actually conceived by then if that was the case.

Thanks for this! I do know when I first tested and I did a few test so the first test result would be pretty spot on. But how do I use that date to work out how many weeks I could be?

Thank you!

So sorry you're going through this OP .

*But how do I use that date to work out how many weeks I could be?
*
The earliest number of weeks you could test positive is around 3 weeks (probably plus a couple of days, ie the equivalent to around 8/9 days post ovulation).

If you saw a positive test 5 weeks ago then you would be around 8 weeks now. If you only saw a positive test maybe 3 weeks ago then you could be only around 6 weeks.

When did you first test positive?

Despite all of that though, like pp said, bodies are weird and you just never know. Sometimes you're just measuring behind for whatever reason and things do catch up.

I wish you the best of luck with it ❤️ it's a very stressful time!

Thank you for explaining this and for your kind words!

I ovulated on 5th & 6th of June.

I assume conception took place 6/7 of June.

Positive pregnancy test16th of June.

So my first positive test came through approx 10 days after ovulation/conception.

So I don't understand when you refer to the 3 weeks being the earliest one could have a positive pregnancy test?

Thanks again!

Sorry for very late reply here. I hope you ended up with good news?
Just thought I would reply anyways even though it's late as I know people TTC can often read these threads for years to come.

When I say 3 weeks is the earliest you could test positive that is because pregnancy is dated from your last period rather than conception. So earliest positive test is usually about 8 days after conception(ovulation) and based on an average cycle this is about 3 weeks since your last period started.
All pregnancies are dated this way. So if you're '8 weeks pregnant' that would mean you conceived around 6 weeks ago and would first get a positive test around 5 weeks ago (absolute earliest!)

Hope this makes sense to anyone reading and I'm praying you've have a good outcome OP ❤️
