Hi, I’m 6 weeks pregnant after conceiving via IVF. I’ve been taking 200mg of utrogestan three times a day - there’s been a mix up with my meds and I have missed my midday dose, I’ll miss tonight’s and tomorrow morning before I get my prescription.
Will this be ok? I’m so worried! Has anyone got any experience of this?

Hi, if you phone 111, your local maternity unit or your clinic, they might be able to sort you out with an emergency supply to tide you over?

Thanks. I have a prescription from my clinic - I’ve phoned every pharmacy and clinic locally but nowhere stocks it. I’ve ordered it at a local pharmacy and it should arrive tomorrow morning. Just worried about missing 3 doses between now and then. I took my last pessary this morning so I’m hoping that’s ok until tomorrow morning...

Can they prescribe you Cyclogest or Lubion instead?

There have been a lot of supply issues with progesterone supplements this year. I think it’s because they are mostly produced in Italy and brexit is causing export issues.

I would speak to your clinic.
I've had so much stress in the run up to being pregnant particularly about getting hold of IVF meds, paid through the nose for couriers etc etc.

Hi @H100300 - I just wanted to offer some reassurance. First off, my clinic stopped progesterone at six weeks anyway, as there's no evidence that there's any benefit to taking it beyond the initial few days/couple of weeks of pregnancy. Secondly, the jury is massively out as fo whether it offers any benefit at all to women who haven't been diagnosed as deficient in progesterone. Most clinics prescribe it on a "it can't hurt, but it might help" basis.

So, I know how stressed you must be, but maybe the above info will help . . . and my DD is now a happy and healthy 18 month old, no progesterone after week 6 of pregnancy! Thanks

Thank you so much @RedPandaFluff - you’ve no idea how much I needed to hear that before trying to sleep! Everything’s such a worry isn’t it! I’m scheduled to take it until 12 weeks but have never been told I have low progesterone so fingers crossed!! Thank you so much

I think I missed 3 doses, or it might have even been 4 or 5, around the same time as you and everything was fine - I'm 37 weeks now! I had to tell myself multiple times the likelihood was that it would be fine... didn't stop me rushing to the loo's in the supermarket as soon as I got my prescription though!! Try not to worry.

I would second this, my consultant prescribed it to me, but he actually said it was more to put my mind at rest because I was doing something, and not because I actually needed it. He also said it was often prescribed as an 'it can't hurt' drug but that it does offer peace of mind, which in turn might help because mums are less stressed because they feel that they're a little in control.

Try not to worry - get some sleep and you'll have your next prescription before you know it Thanks Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Hi all, I wanted to jump on this thread as I have been preparing for IVF for sometime and last week they said I was all set to have the transfer. To aloow this to happen i needed to take 2 x 400mg pregesterone day 1 - 6 and after transfer . I have just had the embryo tranfer just yesterday, and then today I noticed that my peraries are only 200mg 😩so I have only been taking 2 x 200mg each day for 7 days now. I am reading that this is a problem in the early stages. I am now very worried. Can anyone help to offer any advice?

RedPandaFluff · 29/07/2024 06:39

Hi @DiamondGabby - have you been diagnosed with low progesterone, or have they prescribed on a "just in case" basis?
