I am 5 weeks three days . I have been spotting brown for about a week now with cramps off and on . I'm scared and worried . I have my first appointment next Wednesday . Has anyone gone through this ? Am I having a miscarriage ?

It could be something, or it could be nothing. If it’s been going on a week and hasn’t escalated that’s probably a good sign. In my first pregnancy (DS, now almost 3) I spotted mostly brown, sometimes pink or red, every day from 5 weeks to around 12 weeks. No idea why, and it was never investigated, but it clearly didn’t do any harm.
I’ve also lost two pregnancies. One began with pink spotting, the other with brown spotting. But spotting turned to full on bleeding within 3 or 4 days on both occasions.
These things are different for every woman, and there’s no way to know for sure without going for an early scan (usually only possible from 6 weeks +). But if the spotting remains stable there’s a very good chance that it’s nothing at all to worry about. Fingers crossed for you, I know what a worrying time it is.

I spotted, & more, early in my first pregnancy. Everything was fine with the baby though - in fact it's her 17th birthday tomorrow! (well, today now)

I was able to have an early scan when I was first spotting, to check things out. For me, it was put down to being very vascular, vaginally.

I know what a worry it is, I just wanted share my experience that it can be ok. I hope you find out that all is well next Wednesday Flowers

Spotting, brown, pink, or red blood, is very common. I had all three throughout both of my pregnancies and everything was totally fine. During pregnancy, your cervix becomes very vascular and can be prone to bleeding a bit. Right now, if I were you, I wouldn't be worrying. The fact is there is nothing you or anyone can do about it anyway. Try your best to distract yourself and relax.

I have had a few miscarriages which started with spotting, but then progressed to bleeding.

Also a preg with spotting at 5 which was fine. It’s ‘wait and see’ - it’s tough!

It might be too early too see anything at a scan, they might ask you to return in 2 weeks at this stage.

Hope it goes okay for you OP.

Don't take this as gospel, but when I started bleeding at 6 and 7 weeks, my midwife said it was very common and was probably nothing. And indeed it was nothing and I sit here typing this in my second trimester Smile

they did get me in for a scan, and the sonographer at the EPAS clinic told me that she sees about 20 women a day with the same issue and the vast majority of them end up with no problems. She couldn't give me a reason for my bleeding but suggested that it could be old implantation bleeding that hadn't worked it's way out until then.

I feel like I have to follow this up with saying that it can be a sign of something bad, which is why it's definitely the right thing to do to get it all checked out. I just say this as I wouldn't want to inadvertently encourage anyone to not get bleeding checked out and ignore something that ends up being serious. But there's definitely no need to panic yet (although I know that's a daft thing to say as no doubt you will anyway! Pregnancy is naturally a very anxious time)

Hope everything goes well and you get your answers soon x
