Constant nausea- 7 weeks

Hi everyone

I'm 7 weeks pregnant with baby no.2 and unlike my first pregnancy where I didn't have any symptoms for a long time, I've been struck down with constant nausea all day long. I'm not being sick but I feel rotten 24/7. The only thing that takes the feeling away is by eating.

Does anybody have any handy tips on how I can ease the nausea?

Thanks very much x

I had the same throughout my pregnancy. The only thing that helped me was eating savoury food. Some say ginger eases the nausea but it didn't make much difference to me

I find ginger biscuits helpful. They're dry enough not to trigger vomiting for me, and having one a bit before a meal seems to help me at least keep some food down. My other hero food is orange ice lollies!

Baked potato

Hey! The only thing I found to help was eating all the time.. basically ended up grazing my way through the first trimester on the few things I could stomach. Savory snacks. My body had a real aversion to anything sweet.

It feels like forever at the time.. but it did start to get easier as I got past 12 weeks and needed to eat less frequently by 17 weeks. I'm 19 weeks now and only really have an issue first thing in the morning so have biscuits next to my bed!

If you feel it’s impacting your day to day functioning, please call your GP. There are plenty of pregnancy safe medications which may be able to help with the nausea. Hope you’re feeling better soon!

Rest! Makes a huge difference if you can nap regularly. Also, ginger biscuits or crackers on the bedside table. Sea-bands. Collecting a group of people you can rant to at any time when the awfulness gets on top of you. Feverishly googling progression of the placenta and counting the days until the second trimester.

Hope you're managing to keep cool and get some rest. It'll get better soon!

Eating regularly, drinking lots and sleeping. I wore sea sickness bands up until 15 weeks but the worst definitely subsided by the end of first trimester. I have learnt to listen to my body and luckily I WFH so an afternoon nap was possible.

Do you guys work fulltime in a work place not from home?

First 2 pregnancies i was only part time so was easy to manage sickness but this time I'm really struggling! Can't exactly get signed off for 2 months due to normal pregnancy sickness!!

Shortmamashortcycles · 19/07/2021 15:47

@HyphenCobra, I did for my first pregnancy - pandemic this time means I can work remotely. Plus is no commuting, downside is work hours blur as I work with international colleagues and all day on zoom calls makes my nausea worse.

With my first, I told my boss so she could cut me some slack. I also worked from home a few days, which I could have taken as sick days in retrospect.

Also - "normal" pregnancy nausea doesn't exist. What's unbearable for someone else might be manageable for you and vice versa. If you're struggling, speak to your boss and your GP and get the help you need. Pregnancy is a protected category so you won't be disadvantaged at work by telling them you need time off. Lots of folks with HE take 2+ months off - you may only need a week or a few days here and there, but if that makes your life better, take it!

I was the same, although was actually sick a few times too. I felt hungover 24/7 but it subsided around 16 weeks thankfully

Had nothing like it with my son!

I just ate as/when and what I wanted - tried to be 'healthy' but all I could stomach was McDonalds, Subway and Crisps! x

I'm 7 weeks and exactly the same I'm just constantly eating although it's mostly fast food as cooking makes me feel sick especially cooking meat. As soon as I get an empty stomach its game over. 🤢 I did have severe HG with my last 3 though where I couldnt eat at all, so I'm kind of grateful I can actually eat. Although I know the HG could still start but I'm praying it doesnt.

Thanks everyone. I bought some sea bands so trying them out tonight. It definitely gets worse when I'm hungry or tired.

I have a 5 year old who is finishing reception this week and also work from home (at the min) full time, I'm exhausted. I wish I could nap when I needed it.

I haven't told my boss yet as I don't think she will be too happy with my news so trying to keep it from her for as long as possible.
