The labour after a precipitate/rapid labour?

Hi all,

I am due today. My last child was a precipitate labour. Apparently it is common for the subsequent child to be even quicker, does anyone have any experience of a labour after a precipitate? TIA

Hi OP, my first birth was 45 mins end to end... Only just made it to hospital (it was a very close thing!) 2nd birth was 4 hours, much easier and controlled. I know that's still quite fast, but it seemed like ages to me after my first!

F as my second was very fast and gave birth at home before the ambulance or midwifes arrived. Now pregnant with number three and due in December, so interested to hear others experiences of whether or not it happened very quickly again. I'm planning a home birth but would like a midwife to be here this time round! Xx

Hello OP, I was just over 2 hours with my first and then an hour with my second. Now pregnant with my third, so wondering if it will be faster this time...

2hr 45 mins with my first, 5ish hours with my second. I was so worried I wouldn't make it to hospital with my second but needn't have been.

2 hours with my first, warned to prepare for a home birth with my second but ended up being 4 hours.

Hi all, thank you so much for your replies.

My first child was 6 hours, my second started properly at 7am and she was here by 8.22am.

I’m still pregnant with third but really anxious as it’s only been 22 months between the two labours!

These stories are helping me feel like il have some kind of control x

My first was 18 hours which I think is average. my second was 2.5 hours. Baby was born in an ambulance just ten minutes down the road from my home. I'm now pregnant with child 3 due in December and planning a home birth this time as I'm scared we won't make it to hospital (again). Hospital is 35 minutes away past busiest shopping center in the district (baby 2 was born Christmas Eve so was very worried about traffic on the road) this baby is due boxing day so have exactly the same worries

After a 2hr labour with my 1st I planned a home birth for my 2nd.
Didn't plan an unassisted homebirth, but that's what happened.
Waters went, rang hospital to request midwife, they called back when I was having 1st contraction and I told H (who spoke to them) that they needed to get here quickly. Had 4 or 5 contractions in total, delivering ds2 on the last myself into my hands that I'd "just put down there to check".
No more than 15 mins from 1st contraction to delivery.

My midwife said afterwards that if it's quick it is almost always fine, problems slow things down.

1st baby 6 hours, 2nd baby 8 hours - but he came out back to back and in the membranes without my waters breaking first so his position may have slowed it down. I felt short changed as I assumed 2nd time would be faster!

First baby was so fast I don't know how long active labour actually was, almost gave birth on my bedroom floor but luckily managed to get to the hospital (5 minutes away, in an ambulance with lights and sirens) and she was born 10 minutes later. Second Labour was around 4 1/2 hours, as baby got stuck and ended up born like superman head and hand together.

My second (the rapid labour) was born that way, head and arm together, and I had no tears. Makes me think this third one is going to drop out Grin

I had such a quick labour with my third baby that I arranged for a home birth with my fourth because I was worried that there might not be enough time between the start of convincing contractions and being fully dilated for me to get to hospital. As it turned out, I had around five hours in labour and a bigger baby who emerged in the occipitoposterior position.

Amaranth22 · 25/07/2021 22:49

Hi all, just to update- I had the baby today. Contractions started at 7.15am and she was here by 11.16am. This was by far the most painful of my labours, she weighed 8lb 4oz x
