Medical permission for spa treatments?

I’m at 28 weeks and just got diagnosed with GD. I called my local spa to book a foot massage and pedicure.

First of all they refused to book me for a massage because I was pregnant, and then they said because of the GD I couldn’t have a pedicure without “a letter of permission from your health practitioner”.

So I waddle off to my 28 week midwife appointment today and raise it and she basically laughed in my face and said they’d never write a letter for that, and my GP wouldn’t either.

But stumped what to do now. In a couple of weeks time I am booked at a spa hotel specifically for some pampering in the absence of a proper holiday and I’m going to be absolutely pissed off if I can’t have any treatments.

Any experience of this??? Why would the spa request a doctor’s letter if that’s not something doctors provide?

They are just covering themselves. Diabetic people have to be careful with their feet so they are probably being over cautious. There is also a pressure point on the feet that can induce labour.

A GP would probably write you a letter if you asked but they would charge you a fee for it.

When you booked the spa did you say you were pregnant? I imagine not all therapist are qualified to safely do treatments for pregnant women tbh.

Don’t disclose the GD, book in for specialist pregnancy treatments (most spas have these). The spa is covering itself from every angle, but a bit of a foot rub and getting your nails painted won’t hurt you or baby!

You can always ask a private GP to write you a letter if you are really desperate but this really isn't something you can ask of the struggling NHS!
