we've just booked a much overdue break in the Alps for late february. i will be 7 months pregnant by then, so clearly won't be very active :-) however my daughter will be 2 then s o i am anticipating (hopefully!) lots of outdoor playing and walking. even if i won't be the one doing the playing and walking, i'll still have to be there!

so here's the question: what do i wear?

i am hoping someone has tips for me- otherwise there's always the plastic bag with holes for arms and head look...

Oh my god i'm having same problem!! I'm 22 weeks now and are going to vald'isere for new year and alps for feb half term. DH avid skier and daughter is 5 and well away!! I'm going to tag along for the hell of it! hopefully find nice spa and put feet up!
Have been online for ages now looking for thermals and snow wear! What the hell do they wear in alaska and norway and iceland when they are pregnant?? Surely not sack with holes??
I really hope someone has some inspiration. I'm going to end up buying a huge pair of salopettes and leaving front undone!! not ideal bit draughty.

hope we find a solution soon

Waterproof overtrousers over leggings (they normally have a draw elastic waist) ? Get a 3 in 1 coat with an adjustable waist so you can let it out for now and wear afterwards, preferably with a 2 way zip so you could open lower part for comfort.

spugs · 25/11/2007 20:16

patagonia do a pair of stretchy fleece trs that are good and i wear my hubbies fleeces so a mans fleece is prob a good buy.

Gemy · 25/11/2007 20:17

Some nice maternity skinny jeans and UGGs? Isabella Oliver maternity tops (they do a rollneck one) Regarding a coat, would be a shame to spend lots on a new The North Face jacket, especially if you'll have to buy the bigger size so it fastens, not to use it again. Does anyone you know have any snow/mountain walking gear you can borrow who is a larger size?

Will there be any apres ski involved?

Oh and definatly invest in some stylish sunglasses!

sillyselina · 25/11/2007 20:18

All highly attractive too!

spugs · 25/11/2007 20:19

fleece trs

sillyselina · 25/11/2007 20:19

Thanks Gemy, More like it!!

This may be appropriate, site says this item is super-stretchy so you may be able to buy in your normal size?

www.thenorthface.com/opencms/opencms/tnf/gear.jsp?site=EU&model=AN7M&language=en

There are quite a few options for outer layers on The North Face website....

[You could also repeat your post in the Style and Beauty section as there are lots of stylish mums who hang around there ]

MuffinMclay · 25/11/2007 20:52

North Face stuff is on the large side. At 29 weeks pg I'm still able to fit (just!) into a couple of size 10 fleeces, bought long before I was pg with ds1, and I've never been smaller than a size 12 for normal clothes since having him.

If you got stuff that was a size or 2 larger than your normal size you'd be fine at 7 months, I'm sure.

LIZS · 25/11/2007 21:10

That's kind of what I had in mind below this sort of style but if you want to play in the snow ie. sled you'll need to be more waterproofed on legs and feet.

Gemy · 25/11/2007 21:17

I think getting a stylish, flattering midlayer and outer layer in pre-pregnancy size (even if the outer doesn't fasten) may be a better investment as both items can be worn again, and you'll still look good, whilst being warm.

But, I guess it does depend on budget and also whether you're quite happy to just be warm and comfortable without being particulary bothered about style or whether (like me) wanting to show of your glowing pregnancyness in cool snowgear and great accessories

There is always the option to buy bigger size and then sell it on ebay or something?

beforesunrise · 25/11/2007 21:18

Sily, we're going to look really smart :-)

mmhhh don't know who suggested skinny jeans and Ugg but i couldn't carry that off even non-pg... i would look like a pumpkin with furry feet!

i am thinking of buying some mat leggings (i think top shop do them) for under jeans and then wear these waterproof thingies over some sturdy boots (sorry can't figure out how to describe them, they're like overboots).

i will look HOOOOOT

I have the same problem and living in austria I imagined that I'd be able to find something. I think pregnant women here go into hibernation, I've only found maternity wear in 1 shop and nothing like salopettes or jackets. So far I've just had my salopettes open at the top but it's not comfy and I'm only 12 weeks. It's going to be a long winter, we've got loads of snow already.I might have a little ski but I need them mostly for playing with dc in the snow, the school run and general snow clearing. I may have to just invest in bigger sized stuff but then they are so big everywhere else.

Gill79 · 26/11/2007 14:30

would suggest a down jacket like the north face nuptse - great if you're not going to be active as you'll be really warm. Mine is a small size and still does up easily over my 7mnth bump no probs. Not waterproof so no rolling in the snow but you might find one with a water-resistant outer layer. If you haven't got waterproof trousers they come fairly cheap with elasticated waists. If you can afford to do it I'd also suggest a pair of walking boots with proper soles (vibram soles) - you can get them in goretex so stay dry in the snow but more importantly vibram soles will be much more secure on slippy snow and ice and you don't really want to be faceplanting HTH.....

Gill79 · 26/11/2007 14:31

just thinking must be SOOOOO frustrating to go to a ski resort and not be able to ski...... or even indulge in apres ski to forget about it!!!

sillyselina · 26/11/2007 17:31

Well we are going to look a hoot!! KNow what you mean about pumpkin and furry feet!! Idea is good but practicality of it is ridiculous!! ho hum.
I am going december so could always let you know how it goes!!
It will be frustrating but give me a good book and some proper hot chocolate. Oh and the crepes! Not that I'm craving. I missed DD skiing last year and really don't want to miss another year. HUsband and her will be well away leaving me stuck in plough on nursery slope!
I'm not that bad but feel like it when i see a 5 year old hooning down a red!!
THe sunset snowmobiling and stuff like that will still be do-able so really need very warm salopettes.
What size are you beforesunrise? Could always pass on kit to you. I'm 12 normally.
worth a thought

2sugars · 26/11/2007 17:35

A midwife, strapped to your back.

sillyselina · 26/11/2007 17:56

I might need her strapped to back in Feb as i'll be about 4 weeks off due date. But she's off the morrocco for the half term so i'm under strict instructions not to then!! What do you do up a mountain if you're in labour? Haven't thought about it really. Slightly worrying but great story to tell after

LIZS · 26/11/2007 17:59

Do also watch out for altitude when heavily pg . It's easy to get lightheaded.

sillyselina · 26/11/2007 18:34

I know i will be huffing and puffing like an oaf!
I'm light headed at best of times.

beforesunrise · 27/11/2007 07:04

i am a 12 too... so let's stay in touch!

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 27/11/2007 08:26

Please can someone remind me the latest in weeks that you can fly??? We need to book a hols and suddenly realised that's an issue....

Gill79 · 27/11/2007 13:17

36 I think but you need a note from the docs much earlier, about 26 or so, confirming not twins and no complications. It depends on each airline's own policy so you should be able to find it online.

andiemisletoe · 27/11/2007 13:57

my company said back before 32 weeks with fit to fly letter from doc
