WWYD Applying for a Promotion During Pregnancy

Hello

Just looking for some opinions as I cannot make up my mind!

I’m around 16 weeks pregnant and have made my manager aware. A promotion in another team has come up and if I wasn’t pregnant, I’m 99% sure I would apply for it. However I’m having doubts about applying when I am pregnant. I work in HR so am aware that they shouldn’t overlook me just because of the pregnancy but sadly I have seen this happen and my manager also discouraged me from applying for a role before. The role would be a great opportunity for me but will also require a lot more travel and probably end up with longer working hours.

I know it depends a lot on individual circumstances but interested to see what other people think!

A promotion has come up in my team. For various reasons, I am the obvious choice for the promotion but I'm 10 weeks pregnant and suffering HG. The new job would involve line managing and our team work in a stressful area of healthcare and they need lots of support and I just know I couldn't give it my all, and I wouldn't be the line manager they deserve at this point in time and then there'd be instability when I left on mat leave (I'm taking 14 months). So I'm not going for it, even though I'm best candidate (internal post). Sometimes the timings are off and if it's not right for you then there will be other opportunities
