Hi Girls,

I've had the mother of all Migrains this afternoon that came on really quickly.
It started with blurred vision and then confussed speach (this is the bit that worried me most) which was so frusturating as i knew in my head what i was wanting to say but the words were coming out jumbbled or gobble-gook, Then a huge headach hit to which i could do nothing else but lay down.

Have taken paracetamol, still have partial headach now but not as bad, but just wanted to check things on here before i go all panic stricken to dr tomorrow?

i used to get migraines that lasted days, never had the speech thing but did have blurred vision and light and sound aversion etc. paracetamol never touched mine and I always felt sick with them too. definitely go see your doctor anyway as they'll be able to recommend something more suitable than paracetamol.
are you expecting? if so could be a hormone thing in which case will probably go once your lo arrives.

Yes i'm 18 weeks today! Haven't had sickness but when headach was at it's worse i didn't like the light or loud noise.

What worried me the most was the speed it hit. I only popped out to the shops and when i got home the vision went then the speech. Had my mum with me and at first she thought it was my BP.

Quite common in first trimester of pregnancy and usually get better after that. I had one at about 16 weeks with no 3 and thought I was going blind - had a big black spot in one eye that i could not see thru and zig zag lines. But bizarrely no pain so did not think it was a migraine at the time. Was incredibly tired and flaked out for a couple of hours. Went to the optician the next day convinced there was something wrong with my sight but he diagnosed a migraine!

Don't get them normally but have had similar episodes in my other pregnancies too.

I got more migraines in early pregnancy and mine have the wierd vision bit and headache, but are usually accompanied by me being very very sick and after the vomiting, all starts to calm down (may I add this is usually cheese-related but during pregnancy even cheeses I used to be able to eat gave me a few migraines)

Defiantly go to the doctor, never had the speech thing but I know lots of migraines are all different. I took paracetomol but only after being sick, as painkillers can make you feel queasy anyway. By this time, as I said, everything starts to ease off so thankfully the paracetomol was at least partially effective.

Please see your GP or midwife this week.

Nothing to panic about but it must be checked out. (am a fellow migraine sufferer of 30 years standing)

I have had (mild) migraines since I was a teenager but they have disappeared whenever I have been pregnant.
I think you are supposed to check out anything like this with the doctor though, especially if it hasn't happened before pregnancy.

I never suffered migraines until I was pregnany. I get the fuzzy vision, I can't talk properly, usually vomit and have the light and sound aversion too. Lying down helps a bit and I just ride them out. The docs refused to give me anything for them with the usual excuse - it isn't licenced in pregnancy.

Just wanted to add I had a weird migraine in early pg, part of my vision went and I lost sensation in my right arm. As I didn't have a headache i was referred for a MRI scan. This showed nothing(well my brain was there obviously!!) so it was put down to migraine even without headache. It is quite common in pg apparently. I haven't had one since.

Forgot to say let us know how you get on at dr today.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 26/11/2007 14:06

Missvicki, I have the speech thing when I get a migraine (not too often, fortunately!)
It's pretty rare but not unknown.
Always wipes me out for ages afterwards.
I have tried various conventional medicines but find feverfew the most effective remedy. I would not worry but would definitely go to the doctor because you should not have to grin and bear migraines that are that bad.

Hope you're feeling better today and not too drained!

Headach has mildly still persisted today, haven't had time to get to the dr's i am writing this on an hours break before my next clients visit! Won't finish til 8pm tonight!

I 've currently had alot of time off work already and didn't want to phone in sick just to go to the dr's over something that seems to have passed! problem is my whole week is like today and my next weekday off is next monday. Work aren't the most understanding people in the world!
