Good morning. I’m currently working as a cleaner contracted out via a company to work in an office than deals with IT. I’ve recently found out I’m expecting however I’ve always expressed that I would like to work in the IT industry and I took this cleaning position as a foot in the door as I have no previous experience. I’ve been offered a job interview. Which is looking increasingly likely I will get offered the position however, I am currently 6 weeks pregnant. If I don’t tell them I run the risk of being offered the position and them being really pissed off when I tell them and the. Not being entitled to any maternity pay. However I’m wondering if I would be entitled to maternity allowance.
Or do I come clean to both my current employer and my new potential employer and find out what happens.
I really really want this job. But at what cost.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Eeek, I’m not sure how long you can hide it..!

With my first (and for my friends), it was nothing to see -> she has had a big lunch -> she has had a few big lunches -> could she be pregnant? -> I think she is pregnant but I’m not going to say anything -> oh she is pregnant from weeks 12-24

With my second, when I told my boss at 12/13 weeks, he said ‘yes, I had guessed’ Blush

Not so much directed at OP. One financial consideration in taking a new job could be if you are on universal credit. SMP is treated as wages. Each £1 reduces UC by 63p. If you have a child you have a work allowance so they ignore a certain amount a month, the amount depends on whether you are getting help with rent. If you get maternity allowance then it reduces UC £1/£1.

The link below explains, unfortunately the court case has ended and was not successful.

I applied for a teaching job and was successful. 2 weeks later I found out I was pregnant. This means I will be 17 weeks when I start the job. I decided to sign the contract and then break the news to them, which I did at 10 weeks pregnant. They were shocked and slightly annoyed (although they didn't say it) but were grateful that I was honest early on. Life happens at the end of the day! Once you are given a verbal/written offer they can do nothing about it.
