Anyone had the Covid vaccine while pregnant?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant and I haven't been vaccinated yet.

I'm scared of catching covid, especially as my son goes to a childminder and I'm scared I will catch it through him.

Did anyone of you have the covid vaccine and how far along were you?

How did you cope with the vaccine?

Thanks for any advice x

I had my first dose 3 weeks pregnant, second dose will be around 11 weeks pregnant. I felt really nauseous and unwell for a few days but it was bearable just unpleasant, a bit of a temp but paracetamol helped regulate it. There's lots of threads about this already, might be worth having a look for them

I had my first Pzifer dose at 14 weeks which was as soon as I was invited. Got my second dose mid August. The only side effect was a really sore arm for about 2 days.

RavenclawsRoar · 15/07/2021 09:35

Had my first dose at 17w, now waiting for my second. No side effects at all.

Exactly this for me.

Had my doses at 15 weeks and 19 weeks (Pfizer), no side effects except a slightly sore arm for a few hours after the second dose. Very happy to have had it. Where I live, doses are only being given to pregnant women after 14 weeks and I was basically counting down the days.

Sheisfee · 15/07/2021 09:44

Yep! Both jabs in pregnancy 29 & 32 weeks (would have gotten earlier if I could) really sore arm with both but that was it xx

IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 15/07/2021 09:45

I had pfizer at 1 weeks pregnant, so not pregnant really. I'm going to put off the second dose until I'm further along in pregnancy - I just don't want to risk it in first trimester, but will do so maybe at 5 months pregnant. I literally had no symptoms following the first jab.

PB12 · 15/07/2021 09:48

Thanks, everyone. I'm worried about the effect it could have on the baby, but also very worried about catching Covid!

I think I'll probably wait until the second trimester to get mine.

The vaccination doesn’t actually pass the placenta but the antibodies you produce so which is amazing. Sadly, covid does pass the placenta x

Sparechange · 15/07/2021 09:57

Had the first dose before my BFP and second dose at 12 weeks

I’m under a Fetal medicine consultant due to an issue in a previous pregnancy, and asked her if I should get the second dose, and she was unequivocal that I should.

She is one of the most respected Fetal medicine specialists in the country, so if she is happy with me getting it, I couldn’t see any issue.

numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens · 15/07/2021 10:02

I just had mine this morning! I waited until 14 weeks, because I was worried about side effects in the first trimester, but am keen to get dose 2 before the third trimester, because that's when catching covid is really dangerous to the baby. I did feel a bit anxious, but decided I was more worried about catching third trimester covid than the vaccine. No side effects so far!

Missssmamaaa · 15/07/2021 16:06

I have my jab tomorrow and I'm 38 weeks and also already had covid about 6 weeks ago so would defo get it if I was to you as the covid while pregnant was horrendous!

Blxo94 · 15/07/2021 18:43

I am 7 weeks pregnant and just got my first vaccine today (moderna). I spoke with my fetal medicine team as I'm under them for care due to birth defects and pregnancy losses. They pretty much urged me to get the vaccine as the dangers of covid are far more greater than the vaccine x

Yes this
Millthomp21 · 16/07/2021 03:09

I had my first dose a few weeks ago, I'm due the second one close to my due date (I'm nearly 34 weeks) so not sure if I'll have it before or after. I felt a little unwell for a few days after it but apart from that it's perfectly fine! If you get covid during late pregnancy then the risks are much higher than any of those associated with getting the vaccine, it's definitely worth keeping you and your baby safe. I wasnt too keen on the idea of being vaccinated for ages, but also wasn't keen on the idea of getting covid. I'm definitely glad I decided to go for it now.

Hummingbird20 · 16/07/2021 03:44

I had my second jab whilst pregnant. Midwife and GP were both very clear that getting Covid whilst pregnant can be dangerous whereas vaccination is not. If you look online at reputable sites you'll see there's a lot of research showing Pfizer and Moderna are fine whilst pregnant. I'll also be getting my whooping cough jab and flu jab when the time comes.

Garman · 16/07/2021 07:07

So many identical threads on this. I had it at 17 and 21 weeks because pregnant women where I am became eligible for it at 14 weeks when I was 16 weeks. I didn't have to manage any side effects, sore arm for less than a day but I had that very badly after meningitis vaccine when I was 15 so that was perfectly manageable.

Definitely preferable to risking covid in the third trimester which can make the mother very ill and/or damage the placenta.

SouthwestSis · 16/07/2021 07:25

Remember it takes 8-12 weeks to get anywhere near full protection from the vaccines, they take time to work and build immunity, and you want that immunity there before you hit the third trimester when it's most risky.

Florarenniemackintosh · 16/07/2021 07:26

First dose pfizer in june, no side effects @14 weeks. Second is next week.

KiwiDramaQueen · 16/07/2021 07:30

I’ve had my second Astra Zeneca jab while pregnant.

I didn’t speak to my GP, I was confident from the available information online that it was the right decision.

The pharmacist giving the vaccine said they’d had several other pregnant women in that week receiving their second jab.

QueenAdreena · 16/07/2021 07:33

Had my first Pfizer at 23 weeks, second at 28 weeks. Went as soon as I was invited for it. First vacc I was absolutely fine, just a slightly sore arm when I was lying down in bed. Second vacc it affected me more, slightly high temp, bit of sickness, very achey all over and completely lacking energy for 48 hours or so. Still felt like completely the right decision though. I’m having very regular scans and tests due to pre existing conditions and nothing seems to have affected baby.

Very good point

Moderna only starts its observational research into effects of their vaccine being taken by pregnant women on July 22nd. Future tense.

pinkteapots · 16/07/2021 08:09

Obvs moderna not the only option. But its good to be aware.
My midwife advised me not to. Another midwife said there's very low uptake among her pregnant ladies.

The vaccines aren't live, the actual virus is!!
