Induction after reduced movements

Currently 37 weeks with my second DD, have been in 3 times now in the space of a week with reduced movements. Have heard a lot of people say they were induced after so many episodes of reduced movements.
My partner isn't able to come with me when I go in for monitoring due to his work being awkward.
Anyone that has been induced because of reduced movements, did you have your consultation while you we're already at the hospital or did they arrange an appointment for you to go back then tell you that they wanted to induce? And did they keep you straight after? Or did you get to go home and come in the next day or whatever?

My first pregnancy was so straightforward and I'm completely done with this one and ready for little miss to be here but the thought of being kept in for an induction without my husband is worrying me 😩

I haven’t been in this situation but just wanted to say you are able to accept or decline an offer of induction. You may be advised to have one and could accept but say you want to go home and get husband first. They would need to accommodate that xx

I was in twice (both evenings) with reduced movements at 40 weeks. After 2nd episode I saw dr that evening and they booked me in to come in the next afternoon.

Booked me in for induction I mean.

I was in last weekend at 39 weeks with one episode of reduced movements. I had to see the doctor before I left and then go back in for a scan within 72 hours then see the doctor again. They offered me induction, I believe it is standard that anyone presenting with reduced movements at 39 weeks is offered induction.

However, had I of accepted I would have been booked in for an induction, which I suspect would have been in days time. Certainly not there and then (unless perhaps the scan/CTG had found something significant).

(Since everything looked fine, I opted for sweeps instead with a view to booking an induction if they failed... second one did the trick and baby arrived happy and healthy yesterday).

With my ds I was booked in for the induction 48 hours later . Was told at the appt on the Friday they advised induction and they would phone with a time to come in , they phoned that evening telling me to be at the hospital for 7am on the Sunday morning

I had reduced movements at 36 weeks with my DD. Perfect movements all pregnancy and then just suddenly nothing for a whole week. It was terrifying. On my fourth visit the consultant came to speak with me and suggested I have an induction between 38-39 weeks. I opted for 38 weeks, and I continued to feel almost no movement in the week wait until my induction. When she was born her placenta was very deteriorated and they don’t think she would have lived much longer if I hadn’t been induced. This was despite regular scans confirming all looked great with the placenta and baby.

I hope that doesn’t scare you, I just wanted to let you know that reduced movements is definitely a good reason to be induced, particularly if like me movements don’t pick up even once you’re seen. X

Many hospitals still wont allow birth partners until you are in established labour.

I was kept in and not allowed to go home. I'd been dropped off early morning and my DP was working until 9pm so I had nothing with me at all until he could bring me a bag after work :(

I was induced at 37+5 due to a few episodes of reduced movements. Went in on the Thursday to triage and the booked me in to be induced on the Sunday. (Got a date there and then).

I’m 40 weeks today, ans I went in last week with reduced movements for the 2nd time recently (also baby heart rate kept spiking to 180/200), so they tried to admit me on Monday night and get me induced on Tuesday. However, they are so busy that they’ve not managed to get me a bed. I’m due to be induced today, but not holding out much hope for today tbh. Confused

Thank you all for your replies! Having an induction if necessary isn't a problem for me, I just didn't want to be in a situation where I had to go straight away and not have any time to talk with my husband or see him. Your replies have calmed me a little bit so thanks 😊

Luckily no more episodes yet 😊

Good luck @Mommabear20 and @Mncrmum hope all goes as you’d like for you both!

Our little Lucy was born at 8:08pm, oH missed the whole thing, gave birth on my own with gas and air and got to cut the cord! Crazy birth story, but baby is doing well and I’ve just had a few stitches. Eagerly awaiting my tea and toast 🥰

Muststopeating · 18/07/2021 11:37

Congratulations @Mncrmum!!!

Oh my goodness, after all that waiting. Are you all okay?

If your birth story is something you'd like to share then I'd love to hear it when you're ready (for some reason I always want to tell mine).

Also, well done you!!!! I hope you had an amazing midwife holding your hand!
