Getting ready for baby…. Washing

I’m 36 weeks today so really need to start getting stuff ready for babies arrival.

Is it too early to start washing all the bits of clothes Iv bought? And also as they have never been worn do you think they will be ok on the quick wash setting for the washing machine? I never normally use the quick wash as I’m not sure how clean it actually gets the clothes, but as they haven’t been worn do you think it will be ok? X

It's just to rinse off dirt and chemicals from production isn't it? I don't think it needs a particularly long wash cycle 😊

WavesAndLeaves · 14/07/2021 09:53

All of mine was washed by 32 weeks GrinI just like to prepare! Yeah, just do a quick wash unless you have any second hand bits, which I would do a proper wash for

WavesAndLeaves · 14/07/2021 09:54

(Also - pack your hospital bag if you haven't already...)

Sceptre86 · 14/07/2021 09:57

I'm 33 weeks and have picked both mine send baby's bags. I don't think you are early in terms of getting your bags ready. A quick wash us absolutely fine. It's an exciting time.

Quick wash is usually designed for very small loads, check your manual.

I washed all babies clothes a couple of weeks ago after buying/building her drawers (was 33wk). Mostvof them had been in storage for 6 years and some were new, I always wash new until they are 2 and their skin is less sensitive.

NoMoreTractors · 14/07/2021 10:15

Yes a quick wash as baby clothes are tiny and light with some non bio.

Chelyanne · 14/07/2021 10:15

Oh and I've done all newborn, up to 1mth & 0-3 month stuff. All bedding, blankets, Muslims, bibs, sleeping bags too and soft toys too.

Chelyanne · 14/07/2021 10:16

Muslins, bloody auto correct

WaterBottle123 · 14/07/2021 11:04

I never washed anything, it's really not necessary with modern manufacturing. A quick wash is already overkill in my eyes Grin

sparklyblue81 · 14/07/2021 11:15

I only wash second hand stuff - I won’t take new stuff out the packet until baby is here & I know what size it is in case I need to exchange for different sizes, newborn clothes esp, as if you have lots of newborn size & a big baby they won’t get used. 0-3 you’ll use eventually even if baby is tiny.

Caspianberg · 14/07/2021 11:19

Yes it’s fine.

I also find it helpful to wash anything bigger straight away when gifted or bought and then store in a drawer for larger items. That way I can just start using whenever they grow into them rather than have to then take out and wash

Chanel05 · 14/07/2021 11:49

Wash everything you have now! My dd is 10 months old now and I'm so glad I washed all her stuff even for now (and beyond!) before she was born. It would be too much of a hassle.

8dpwoah · 14/07/2021 12:02

I'm really looking forward to doing all that again but waiting til my number of weeks has a 3 in front of it 😂... Mostly DD's stuff that's been in the loft so will be smallish batches, 40 degree quick wash. I think it's nice to have it all fresh and smelling like everyone else in the house's clothes, I know that's maybe a bit weird!

DappledThings · 14/07/2021 12:09

I washed all of DC1's stuff. With DC2 only those bits that had come back down from the loft. You don't have to do it.

sarah13xx · 14/07/2021 12:18

I’m 36 weeks and washed mine ages ago 😂 I used the quick wash, was scared I was going to shrink them

ExcitingTimes2021 · 15/07/2021 10:11

Shit. I feel very underprepared now!! I still need to wash all the clothes, pack my hospital bag, buy but for my bag, pack babies bag, got a few small bits to buy (thermometers, bottles, nail care stuff, got all the big stuff), think about my birth plan (3”everytime I try to think about it I just get freaked out)! So much to do still!!! X

Don't worry or panic.
There is no actual need to have your hospital bags etc packed by a certain date (well maybe 38/39 weeks would be good!). But what's to be achieved by packing a bag at 32 weeks-except that mums want to do it to "feel prepared" and get excited. If that's what you want to do great, I understand it's part of the excitement.

But if you're busy working/have lots of commitments or have kids already, it's probably not as much as a priority to do it early.
Nowadays you can get most things delivered from amazon the next day and all big supermarkets sell baby stuff and many are open late, so don't panic at all.
Also you don't have to wash baby clothes if you don't want to
