Thyroid results very anxious about miscarriage

Hi,

Hoping for some advice.

I had a thyroid test 28th June and results are below. TSH is over the recommended 2.5 and have just got a positive pregnancy test.

I previously had a miscarriage due to a misdiagnosed server overactive thyroid so you can imagine, it's filled me with a lot of anxiety this time around especially given my levels aren't 'optimum'.

I am going to ring the GP today and get booked in immediately to the pregnancy thyroid unit but in the meantime - can anyone offer any advice based on these results (ie - should I ask for medication?);

I don't trust the doctors hence trying to seek out my own answers as they misdiagnosed my thyroid last time which led to the miscarriage so feel I can't solely rely on them. Thanks for the help x

I'm not a medical professional but I have Hashimotos disease (so underactive thyroid) and have been pregnant three times since my diagnosis (DC2, a MC at 9 weeks, and currently 33w with DC3)

My endocrinologist likes my TSH to be under 2.0 in early pregnancy but whilst 2.8 is over, it's not significantly over. If I remember correctly, mine had shot up to about 5.0 when I had a blood test at 7w and whilst we quickly upped my medication, I don't think anyone was too alarmed.

I think the main thing is that you address is as soon as you can and then continue to monitor it, but I wouldn't be panicking about it (easier said than done, I know)

@PrimeraVez thank you so much fir your reply. I've left a message for midwife to call and I will insist on an endocrinology appointments

You will be under a consultant as high risk for thyroid issue. Mine went under active after baby 2 and then I had a late miscarriage last year which my husband blames on my thyroid although hospital/consultant didn’t seem to think so. I am currently 18 weeks, they’ve upped my thyroid medicine and I have consultant next week. They like to test the levels in each trimester but beyond that I don’t know what it will mean until I speak to the consultant. It’s annoying because I’ve been low risk previously!

@Ameteurmum thank you / do they refer you immediately even in very early pregnancy? I'm currently only six weeks but lost last time at 9 so feel it needs addressing now

I've had three pregnancies with an overactive thyroid you are at risk until the placenta takes over then your risk is the same as everyone else

You will potentially need to be medicated but the medication for an overactive thyroid is not instant like it is for underactive

The medication you need during pregnancy is commonly referred to as PTU not the carbimazole that carries a risk in pregnancy

Your levels are only slightly off so fingers crossed you will be okay

I got referred around 10 weeks when I had my booking in app - to be honest I found the GP a lot more helpful than the midwife. My thyroid levels were supposed to be checked with my booking bloods but were not and I had to call it out to them (repeatedly!!) my gp has been dealing with my consultant so hopefully between them they are doing all of the right stuff
