Harvesting colostrum with a breastfeeding toddler?

Last time I was pregnant, harvesting colostrum wasn’t a thing unless you were diabetic. This time my midwife has provided me with syringes and a leaflet and explained the benefits etc. I could have done with this first time round as struggled with breastfeeding for first 24 hours.
However my firstborn (just about to turn 2) still breastfeeds. I’m not sure how to go about harvesting colostrum while this is happening! First time round I could see I was leaking colostrum but as toddler feeds in morning and before bedtime (and occasionally during day) i don’t see any colostrum leaking!
I did explain to midwife I’m still breastfeeding a toddler but she didn’t seem to have any advice beyond what was on the sheet.
Has anyone on here for advice with this? Do I need to hand express/will it work with a feeding toddler? Is the colostrum not mixed in with the milk toddler drinks??

I was still feeding DS2 while pg with DD and didn’t really notice the milk changing to colostrum until she was born, but then I hadn’t heard of colostrum harvesting so I wasn’t really looking for it! The Kelly mom website might have some advice or you could try contacting La Leche League or your local breastfeeding support team who may be able to advise?

Yes I'd call the national breastfeeding helpline or contact someone like lll / ABM and see what they suggest.

Your milk should go totally back to colostrum before the baby is born. It won't mix in with mature milk.

I would get advice from a breastfeeding expert on this. I’m harvesting colostrum too, but aren’t breast feeding at the same time. I would have assumed the colostrum would be mixed with mature milk at the moment with breastfeeding your toddler, and switch to pure colostrum for baby after birth but don’t know for sure.

Are you able to hand express a bit during a break between toddler feeds? If it is colostrum it should be yellowish in colour, thick and sticky
