When did you start to feel movement? I’m 14 weeks and so looking forward to feeling baby move but I wonder if it’s likely to be much later than normal given it’s my first pregnancy and the placenta is anterior?

I have one apparently and I started feeling buzzing at 13 weeks and movement at 17 weeks. Little ones has legs that’s are off the scale and this is my second pregnancy so that may be why? Hasn’t stopped any feeling at all for me x

FartnissEverbeans · 12/07/2021 18:10

I found out a few days ago that I have an anterior placenta! I didn’t start feeling movements until about 20 weeks. I’m now almost 22 and can feel plenty, but mostly really low down and around the sides.

I was a bit worried a few weeks ago because I’m sure I started feeling movements much earlier with my first, but maybe my placenta was just differently placed last time.

NoNobramma · 12/07/2021 18:11

18/19 weeks

Terrazzo · 12/07/2021 18:11

I’ve had 2, a tilted uterus runs in our fam and my sis had anterior placentas too so I do wonder if that has something to do with it!

Anyway I didn’t feel DC1 until around 20 weeks.

Felt DC2 at 11 weeks, absolutely convinced of it. Wasn’t a one off either.

Theunamedcat · 12/07/2021 18:12

Honestly I didnt really feel her till after the 20 week mark I was overweight before I got pregnant so it could have been due to that too

BinkyRidesForth · 12/07/2021 18:18

Thanks everyone, sounds like I’ll have to be a little more patient! Spent the first trimester just counting down to first scan and now I’m wishing time away again waiting for 20 week scan and movement. The sonography did say I would feel less movement with an anterior placenta as it sort of cushions the kicks?

If you lie propped up on the bed or carpet on your tummy you may be able to feel it better.
I felt dd (3rd pregnancy) at 17 weeks with an anterior placenta. 15 weeks for the two that weren't.

llol031 · 12/07/2021 18:20

I have an anterior placenta and have only started fo feel big gas bubbles (that I’m guessing are baby) towards the end of last week (22 nearly 23 weeks)

For first time pregnancy, it’s normal not to feel anything until after 20 weeks. With anterior placenta, that can be closer to 23-24 weeks (this comes from NHS website)

My midwife advised if I haven’t felt anything by 24 weeks to call and let them know.

So you’ve probably got a little wait yet unfortunately 😞. It can be an anxious time and I was nervous but if you are worrying, honestly try not to get too concerned until nearer the 24 week mark.

☺️

Thanks, I will definitely give it a go although I’m guessing still a bit early yet!

Started to feel movement for definite at 20 weeks this time. I think it was earlier, maybe 17 last time x

Girlmama3 · 12/07/2021 18:25

I have one again this time and only really feel it now at 22 weeks. This is baby number 4 so it's surprised me!

Brouhahaha · 12/07/2021 19:09

19 weeks for me, just very faint flutters. Now 21w and a little stronger but only on the left of my belly

WeMustGetOffTheMountain · 12/07/2021 19:11

It was around the 20 week mark for me, perhaps slightly earlier with my second as I knew what I was looking out for. "Proper" kicks not until much later.

T0rt0ise · 12/07/2021 19:15

Anterior placenta with both first baby and current pregnancy, 22/23 weeks with first and just started feeling them now at 20 weeks with second.

Cornishmumofone · 12/07/2021 19:17

I rarely felt anything.. unless I was lying very still and concentrating on trying to feel movements.

Chelyanne · 12/07/2021 19:17

I could feel this baby from 12wk (our 6th) but only very low down and movements were few and far between until around 20wk. I was told at my anomaly scan that the placenta was anterior which explained why I felt much less than with our others, 1st anterior for me. Hubby felt baby kick at 21+5, most outer movement was to my left side but slowly spread across bump as it grew. I had a growth scan at 31+6 and the placenta had moved to the fundal position. I can see and feel loads of movement all over now but rarely get any kicks in the ribs. I'm 34+6 now

TheMostHappy · 12/07/2021 19:20

I felt movements fairly early but as the plaacenta grew it started to cause problems with feeling movement so I ended up on the monitor a few times.

When ds2 was delivered by csec everyone gathered around to admire my placenta which was apparently the largest the surgeon had seen in quite some time. I was proud to hear the "oohs" and "ahhs" of the staff in the operating theatre as they prodded and poked it. Grin

BinkyRidesForth · 12/07/2021 19:25

That’s really helpful, thank you! Trying to break time up into chunks… 2 weeks until 16 week phone appointment then it will only be 4 weeks to scan etc.

I have an anterior with my first and didn’t feel barely anything until 22 weeks, slim build so wasn’t that! This time I have a placenta in the right place and felt bubbles from 13 weeks x

Your second paragraph made me laugh GrinTo be fair I’ve just been watching that Emma Willis delivering babies programme (my new guilty pleasure!) and they showed a placenta on it - I was amazed how big it was… I was picturing something maybe the size of a digestive biscuit or smaller Confused I can see now why it would cushion the blows!!!

I think around 24 weeks

Bluey18 · 12/07/2021 19:43

Had one both times;

DC1 - can't remember exact date but about 23 weeks
DC2 - on and off the last 2 weeks (I'm 22 weeks now)

Try not to worry, there's such a wide range of normal Smile

YumLemonCheesecake · 12/07/2021 20:31

I'm 21 weeks today and still haven't felt anything, not uncommon with anterior placenta apparently.
It does feel very odd as I had a posterior with my first and felt him wiggling very very early .

Ednadidit · 12/07/2021 20:39

Started to feel it about 21 weeks. I find it quite funny that I can tell where the placenta is because I can feel her around it.

Codoftherings · 12/07/2021 20:59

Around 22/23 weeks x
