Transverse at 29 weeks

Hi ladies,

I’m currently 29+2 and my baby is in a transverse lie position, with head on the left and bottom on the right.

What are the chances of him moving before due date? And is there anything I can do to help him along? I’ve read about Spinning Babies, so will give that a try from 32 weeks ish.

Feeling really anxious about a C Section, and understand that transverse mums are typically admitted at 37 weeks if there’s a risk of cord prolapse. I don’t think I’ll see my NHS midwife again in person until 34 weeks, which might be a bit too late to try other options to get baby to turn if he’s not turned naturally by then. Not a big fan of the idea of an ECV!

Any advice gratefully received :)

Thank you!

Plenty of time, don't worry. The midwives don't get that interested in position until you're 36 weeks ish and they can still move after then as well 👍😀

That is perfectly normal.

My first was transverse for ages. Then breech. Then he turned himself at 38 weeks and I had a lovely water birth at 41+6.

He is now 13 and sitting next to me on the sofa, getting rather stressed with the football.

You have plenty of time for things to change naturally.

Lots of babies are transverse at 29 weeks. Perfectly normal and plenty of time to turn

Mine was exactly the same as yours then I felt her flip shortly before my 32 week appointment where midwife confirmed she was head down and has been since (36+3 now).

As others have said, it's fine. There's loads of time still to turn. Mine was in a different position (except cephalic) at every midwife appointment until 34 weeks. When she (finally) went head down, she stayed there.

My first baby was still flipping about at 30-31 weeks.
My second was breech at 34 weeks - I did spinning babies and baby had turned cephalic by the time I had a presentation scan at 36 weeks.

Just to echo what a few others have said, don't panic just yet!

DC2 was breech until around 323w, when he turned breech. Just as we were discussing ECV at around 37w, he turned head down and I was able to have a straightforward vaginal delivery.

Both of mine were transverse at this stage, cont remember exactly when they moved but they did. Look up Optimal Foetal Positioning Smile

NeedAHoliday123 · 12/07/2021 09:38

Mine moved from transverse at about 32 weeks so you've got plenty of time yet :)

LJGFD · 12/07/2021 09:52

Thank you so much ladies! Anything you did to get him/her to move? I’ll try them all!!

My daughter was breech at 29 weeks and then went head down at 32 weeks. However, it was discovered during my labour that she'd become transverse! I had an emergency section in the end but my point is, they can move into any position at any time, so there's always the chance baby will turn.

Lupinspotato · 12/07/2021 11:41

Mine moved from transverse at 34 weeks. It was a very uncomfortable night when they did though! It sounds like you have plenty of time yet and not to worry.
