Hi everyone

Got a bit of a shock last week finding out that DH and I are expecting our 3rd baby, our DD is 10 and DS is 9. We didn't think it would happen again for us. I'm 35 and DH is 40, are we crazy having another baby this late with such a large age gap with our other children? Also concerned about pregnancy/labour this time round, I'm classed as obese and scared about pregnancy complications due to age/weight. Just looking for some assurance or helpful info from anyone who may be in a similar position?

Smile

35!!! After 4yrs TTC I got pregnant for the 1st at 38. Then 39, then 41 and MC all! Yes, 35 is higher risk, but hardy ancient!

I'd look into the NIPT, but its a personal choice. Congrats.

I had my first child a few weeks ago at the age of 35. No one ever brought up my age as an issue at any time. So I don’t think that should be an issue. I know when my mother had a child in her 30s the doctor made jokes about her being an old mum but now it’s really common.

It’s more your health and how you feel about the age gap that you’d need to think about.

35 isn't old to have a baby. Just FYI.

Your age is fine. The obesity would carry more risk anyway. Congratulations

I have a 12 year gap between my third and forth. I was 36 when he was born, got back on my feet really quick despite needing a c section.
I was swiiming twice a week until 39 weeks.

Sonarl · 12/07/2021 00:08

That's not very late, I was 39 when I had my last, all fine.

Dolallytats · 12/07/2021 00:13

I had my first at 19, my second at 34 and my third at 39- 20 years between the first and last. Not ideal, and the 2nd and 3rd came after we'd accepted we wouldn't be having any more, but they have great relationships with each other and I wouldn't change anything.

My MIL had DP when she was 39, her DD1 was 13 and DD2 was 10 at the time Smile
He gets on really well with the younger of his older sisters. The eldest one just has a horrid personality and needs her head wobbling haha

I’m 35 with a 10 (nearly 11), 9 and 6 year old. Was a massive surprise, the kids are really looking forward to helping. I’m overweight too, and put so much weight on now obese. I have found pregnancy harder this time nearly 30 weeks now. Excited though. Good luck :)

PrimeraVez · 12/07/2021 07:35

I'm 35 with DC3 (was late 20s when I had the other 2) I was worried about being older but my OB snorted with laughter when I mentioned it to her, and said she routinely saw pregnant women nearly 10 years older and it's never been referred to since.

Also, FWIW, this has been by far my easiest pregnancy (touch wood, still got 6 weeks or so to go) in terms of aches and pains, fatigue etc.

headintheproverbial · 12/07/2021 07:43

I'd say 35 these days is a pretty standard age. I had my two at 33 and 37, no issues. Congratulations! Thanks

35 is really, really, really not old for a pregnancy.

As for the age gap, I had my third at 38 with an 8yo and 10yo and they adored her from day one. You do go back to square one a bit in terms of the impact on your life, but the logistics are not as hard as they might sound, as with children that old, once the youngest is becoming less portable they will increasingly be able to do their own thing a bit (e.g. on a holiday/day out) so you are not actually trying to entertain/supervise all three at once.

I’m 37 , 5 weeks pregnant, I have a 17 & 10 year old, I feel like I have such big age gaps and I’m also worried about delivery as this will be my 3rd c section.

LozHAP35 · 12/07/2021 16:22

Yr not crazy, congratulations. I'm 35 and 24 weeks pregnant and planned. My eldest daughter is 16 next month x

HalloHello · 12/07/2021 17:10

My BMI is 37 and I'm 33 years old, 34 before baby arrives in August. Not old at all, no one has ever mentioned age or barely even my weight. You need a few extra checks, and you'll have a consultant to monitor the babies growth. Potential for more complications such a high BP, gestational diabetes and clots but you equally might not so I wouldn't worry too much about that. As long as you eat healthy, stay active and follow midwives advice then you'll be fine.

The shock of it being unexpected is probably making you feel more anxious. Once you start seeing medical professionals, you'll feel a lot better.

ScotsMumOf4 · 12/07/2021 20:39

I'm 35 and 20 weeks with my 4th. I mentioned to my midwife about my age and she was not concerned at all. Congratulations

Yellowcrockpot · 12/07/2021 20:56

35 is a normal, standard first baby age! You have nothing to worry about at 35 op!

...and congratulations!
