I have had a sore bum all day and thought it was piles.I am now in angony.I applied anusol (i have had piles before- small lumps coming out of anus)

I have just looked and the swelling looks very big and angry and I am worried that its something else like a prolapse

The swelling is the size of a sausage

im waiting for dh to get in from work and am scared

Stupid question - but is it definately coming from your anus?
Vaginal hemarriods (?sp) can also appear during pregnancy. Maybe its one of those? (tend to be a different shape to the grape like anal ones)

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 24/11/2007 20:22

yes its coming out of anus

haven't come across this before, but you sound really scared - i'm sure in your situation i would be too.
ring out-of-hours doctors, your hospital or NHS direct asap!
((hugs)) and take care.

I had this two months after birth! It was so painful that it woke me up! It was piles. I have had them before and usually they were like a little bunch of grapes. Not this time - it was huge. Just like you have described - it was like a cocktal sausage. Basically pile are just aggarvated blood vessels which swell. Keep taking the anbusol - it may take a couple of days. I applied it after every visit to the loo. If you are still worried though consult your GP. x

sugarfree · 24/11/2007 21:20

It could be that a pile has become thrombosed, take analgesia, use anusol,GP monday if it's not resolving by then.Out of hours service if the pain is unbearable.

Hayleyandbaby · 25/11/2007 11:23

Piles can be pretty bad. I'm waiting for the same to happen to me as it's hurting all the way up in to my back. I know it's terrifying, but try not to panic. I'd say stay in bed as you don't want to agitate it walking around, and keep on with the anusol.
After you've had the baby, they can inject the piles. They say not to use the internal pile treatment during pregnancy. Don't worry chocolatepeanut, they'll be able to cure whatever it is.

hildegard · 25/11/2007 11:34

Could be an abcess, needs looking at straight away. I had one, do get this looked at now as if it is an abcess it needs to be treated before it gets bigger.

A GP told me mine was piles, when I said that it really hurt she said "Well they do!"
I ended up having surgery five days later as it had got so big (hope that is not alarming you too much).

Hayleyandbaby · 25/11/2007 11:47

Really hildegard? Sorry to jump in and steal thoughts, but just wondered if i could have one right up inside, by my back? How did they find it was an abcess?

NoNameToday · 25/11/2007 12:39

Prolapsed 'piles' are very painful and can require hospital treatment.
Agree with sugarfree, if the pain is unberable seek out of hours help or attend A&E.
And sod the embarrassment.

suzywong · 25/11/2007 12:57

the devil made me post this

sorry

hildegard · 25/11/2007 15:17

Hayeyandbaby, it was visible as a lump under the skin. They thought it might be a thrombosed pile, but it turned out not to be, and that wasted another day or so (in hospital this time though!) It was agony. All the extra time it took to diagnose meant that I ended up having seven GA over two years to repair a fistula. It was properly diagnosed in the end by the consultant who looked at it.
Go to the doctor asap!

hildegard · 25/11/2007 15:19

chocloatepeanut - you have my every sympathy. I've had several large thrombosed piles from giving birth 2 weeks ago. They were hell on earth for 2 days then doc gave me some stool softner (a godsend!) and some strong (prescription only) anaesthetic and steroid cream to sooth and shrink them. 2 weeks on i can sit down and move about now with very little discomfort although they are still itchy and a bit sore. He also told me to take co-codamol (fine in pregnancy too according to my consultant) and as many baths a day as I could squeeze in. i also found a cold flannel eased the pain a bit and a valley cushion allowed me to sit for short periods to feed lo.
hope it eases for you soon

maviscrewit · 26/11/2007 14:02

You need a steroid cream my love. After first baby I had a haemarhoid the size of a small country coming out of my bum, I was petrified I can tell you. Even the midwife was shocked at the size of it and she had seen plenty in her time!! The cream worked a treat but if not the dr can inject something to help make it shrink. So sorry for you, I am reliving the pain and discomfort in sympathy for you. Take care x

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 26/11/2007 18:27

thanks mavis

i am having regular cool baths and applting anusol and today they started bleeding so have rested all day

trouble is i have cough and it kills when i do

maviscrewit · 27/11/2007 13:01

Ooooh I know how you feel, it took mine about two weeks to shrink to a managable size and I had loads of stitches too, needed a special cushion to sit down. Remember to drink plenty and don't strain (as if!) and pelvic floor exercises can help too, when you feel like it of course. Hope you feel better soon.

Also when you have your baby, try and give birth in a more upright position or all fours, it really helps prevent that trouble again. I was so scared with my second baby that I would have the same trouble and gave birth on all fours, and not a bit of trouble. They flare up now and again but not to that extent - phew.
