Overdue, multiple sweeps, fed up

Coming here to vent - anyone else in the same boat? I can't sleep, I'm in pain, I've had 2 sweeps that didn't do much, and my body has been pretending to go into labour a few times over the last couple of weeks. Every time I see a midwife they tell me I'm "just about" in labour but nothing is progressing. I really don't want to be induced but if nothing happens soon I'll have to be.

Anyone else? Or any positive stories to keep me going? Confused

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Muststopeating · 13/07/2021 08:06

@FirstTimeMummy2021 how exciting!!!! Hope you're doing okay and progressing well.

I've never had spontaneous waters... the first time they were broken for me and the second they went in the pool and immediately had to start pushing.

The thing I remember from the first time is that they just keep going... and going and going. So you have to wear a pad to move around anywhere. I thought they'd go once and be done.

It now always makes me laugh when I see the episode of Friends where Rachel's waters break and she goes oh... and then they walk out the door, without changing or cleaning up or anything!!!

Good luck! Keep us posted!!!

Jellyfishnchips · 13/07/2021 09:23

Oooo yes, keep us posted FirstTimeMummy21, v exciting!

How is it going? x

Mummy2O · 13/07/2021 09:28

@FirstTimeMummy2021 Oooh so exciting! Hope you are OK.

Jellyfishnchips · 13/07/2021 09:38

Hi welcome Mummy20! Are you in the same boat? (approaching or over due date)?

Mummy2O · 13/07/2021 09:50

@Jellyfishnchips Not this time around, but I was with my first pregnancy. I went 5 days over and had 2 sweeps, which did nothing. He eventually made his appearance after we'd made plans for the day (sod's law). I was just getting up off the sofa to go when my waters broke. Contractions started right after that.

I'm currently 39+3 and am having a section.

worktrip · 13/07/2021 10:11

Baby picture please?

EdithGrantham · 13/07/2021 11:52

Can I join this thread please, currently 39+1 and although I'm very nervous about giving birth and apprehensive about having a newborn I'm starting to feel that anything that will put a stop the PGP I've had will be great Grin

Muststopeating · 13/07/2021 12:38

Well second sweep done... it was um enthusiastic!!! Hopefully it'll kick things off. I'm now 2cm dilated so if I need to be induced should be able to have my waters broken without pessary/balloon. I have a Bishops Score of 9.

I have a massage thats been booked for a while tomorrow at 4pm, so my bet is I'll go into labour at 3pm! Confused

Muststopeating · 13/07/2021 18:11

Shall we start an is it, isn't it.

I've started contractions. They got up to every 2 mins but I could talk through them. They've slowed down massively so waiting to see if just a false alarm or a stop start situation.

I'm an hour away from the hospital so don't want to leave it too late but equally don't want to get there and be sent home.

Jellyfishnchips · 13/07/2021 18:25

Oooo sounds promising Muststop! You can’t be far off now! I had some crampy contractions overnight, 5-6 mins(ish) apart went on for couple of hours but had stopped completely by morning. So yes, is it, isn’t it? who can tell, Arg!

Difficult one Muststop as yes, you don’t want to leave too late if it’s one hour away or too early. How are they now? More intensive or can you still hold conversation easily?

Jellyfishnchips · 13/07/2021 18:32

Am just about to have my own baby but am super excited for you and the other mums on here!

Mummy20 cool you know at least when baby will arrive! When are you going in for the C-section?

Welcome EdithG, of course come join us! Yes the PGP is a right pain isn’t it? Not long to go now and it will all be behind you. Is it first baby?

Muststopeating · 13/07/2021 18:58

They've all but stopped. Only lasted an hour. Sad I was also feeling like I couldn't eat anything but now my appetite is coming back. (Sent brother off for the takeaway we had planned). Had everybody on defcom 5 for nothing! Sigh! Just getting the odd one here and there now.

RachShad · 13/07/2021 19:16

Hi I'm 39+3 and booked for a sweep on Saturday, just wondering if it doesn't work how far apart is your second Sweep from your first?

Muststopeating · 13/07/2021 19:35

@RachShad the doctor told me that you can technically have one every day but I think they will normally leave 48-72 hours between them. I had first on Sat and second today. However, that was doctor instructed. May have been left longer if just midwife left.

(We have the same due date).

RachShad · 13/07/2021 19:41

@Muststopeating ah thankyou! Did nothing happen after your first at all? I've heard so many women say they just don't work. I would love for her to just come before Saturday though but I'm not hopeful. Eee how long are these last couple weeks though?! It's just dragging!

Muststopeating · 13/07/2021 19:56

It did help. I was 1 cm dilated on Saturday and cervix was still quite long and firm. Bishops score of 5.

Today I was 2cm dilated, which means they'll be able to break my waters without any pessary or balloon and much thinner, shorter cervix.

So it definitely did something.

Todays was considerably rougher and I had some bleeding straight after and had quite a lot of bloody show since and started with the cramps/contractions very quickly. So hopefully nearly there.

With my last baby had one sweep on my due date on Saturday and he was born on Tuesday morning.

I'd always opt for a sweep(s) to try to avoid induction. Though will be induced if/when it is recommended/required.

RachShad · 13/07/2021 20:34

Ah right, seems second sweeps are more helpful. How close to your due date are you now?(sorry if I've missed this further up?) Yeah I'm hoping this works as it's on my due date, because they've said they usually only allow us to go over by 1 week (might just be my area) and would ideally like not to be induced. I know this is also my choice and I can refuse but I don't want to hang on any longer to be honest , I just want it over with now!

Muststopeating · 13/07/2021 20:41

@RachShad I'm due on Saturday, same as you.

They also induce at 40+7 here but because baby started misbehaving with their movements they are threatening it early. I have to have another scan and see the doctor again on Friday so fingers crossed she's out by then!

RachShad · 13/07/2021 20:51

Aw sorry I realised you said that previously, I just wondered why you had been offered sweeps early that's all. Ahh I see, well hopefully it happens soon for us both then!! Definitely would rather things happen naturally. Keep me informed when she arrives!! I'll do the same, good luck with everything

EdithGrantham · 13/07/2021 22:13

Yes first baby for me, have been offered stretch and sweep at my next midwife appointment next week but said for now I'll say no, I might get her to just check my cervix if that's an option though. Inductions here are booked at 41+5 so a little while before I need to start considering that. I've had pressure in my pelvis and backache all day today but have just put that down to the PGP

Jellyfishnchips · 13/07/2021 23:14

Sending you good thoughts for the night everyone, check in tomorrow and let us know how you’re getting on. For now, sweet dreams and favourable cervixes x

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 14/07/2021 06:30

Hi all,
Just coming back to update - baby boy born yesterday morning. Was overdue and was not prepared mentally for my waters to be the way they were. It went everywhere and you're right, it did keep on coming... and coming...!! Good luck everyone else waiting.

RachShad · 14/07/2021 06:40

Awww @FirstTimeMummy2021 congratulations!!!

MillyJS · 14/07/2021 08:57

Ahhh congrats @FirstTimeMummy2021 🥳

39 weeks today & absolutely no signs of baby making an appearance other than braxton hicks getting more frequent.

Jellyfishnchips · 14/07/2021 10:00

Congratulations FirstTimeMummy21! That’s brilliant news, I had hopes for you as your waters had gone that it wouldn’t be long 🙂 hopefully the rest of us aren’t far behind you and the OP!
