Planned C-section experiences

I'm 34 weeks and baby is breech. My placenta is anterior so consultant recommending planned section at 39 weeks rather than trying to turn baby.

I would really prefer not to have a section but at the end of the day getting baby here safely is priority so will if consultant is advising.

I had a lovely natural birth with baby #1, no assistance or pain relief, lots of skin to skin and breastfed straight after birth. I hate the idea of being numb and lying flat on my back for hours and not managing to do the same this time around.
My question really is, how much skin to skin did you get with baby after section and was it easy to breastfeed?

My milk didn't come in for days but I think that was because it was my first and after a really really long labour
I had more skin to skin after my emcs than my vbac, I couldn't be bothered with after the vbac!
I was up really quickly. I slept for 6 hours as I was knackered, then got up and had a shower and some lunch. Went home the next day

So long as all is well with you and the baby, you should be able to have skin to skin in theatre if you want it. You won’t be flat on your back for hours - again so long as all is well you’ll be sat up in bed at the end. The numbness starts wearing off after a couple of hours. HTH. (DOI: anaesthetist)

Baby has a few more weeks to flip, think mine did at 35 weeks after a night where it felt like he was trying to climb out of my stomach! Planned c sections usually much easier all round than emergency ones. I saw my baby when I was in the recovery bay and had skin to skin. Milk came in on day 3.

I had a planned section.

Baby was cleaned up and passed to me for skin to skin immediately. Stayed snuggled like that for a couple of hours while in recovery

Breastfeeding was fairly easy, midwives were on hand to help with positioning. I was very tired from not eating since the night before so it was also tiring to breastfeed but that probably would have also been the case for a vaginal birth too.

Thanks very much for your replies, they've made me feel a bit better about it.
@littlejalapeno i'm really hoping baby will still turn, have been reading about different techniques to encourage them to turn but seems they have varying success. Did you do anything different before/when yours turned?

Had elcs with breech twins, they would not try to turn.
Skin to skin was in theater once they were weighed, they did give the 2nd to dh which I wasn't happy about but she was passed to me once stitched up. They did breastfeed in recovery but I've always struggled with supply so were given formula once on the ward, a bit under 12hrs after surgery (I had heavy blood loss). I could get up and walk once on the ward, did feel like a lead weight tho so was happy to then stay in bed. Catheter was removed the next morning and I felt pretty normal, no pain relief needed and was discharged in under 36hrs from 1st getting to hospital.
It was much better than I expected.

I wish I could say! I think they do what they want, I was asleep when he made the move and woke up wondering if it was labour. Went in for a check the next day and they said he had flipped. You’ve still got time so just relax for now and revisit your options closer to the due date. Good luck!

My planned section was lovely

They did delayed clamping after delivery, so there was a worthwhile delay before skin to skin

But I was feeding straight away and had someone come and check latch etc in recovery before being moved to the ward

I've had two sections, and had plenty of skin to skin in recovery both times. I didn't feel safe holding them on the table in theatre so DH held them, but it was offered. Breast fed both with no problems at all, starting in recovery.
