Why oh why did none of you warn me about this? Recently told 4 yo dd she'll be getting a baby sister in May - big mistake. So far this morning been told I'm not allowed chocolate any more cos it's bad for the baby - got to eat baby rice instead! Also that there's no point in sorting out a room for the baby because it's moving in with her, she's going to do the night feeds etc. Last night she just about went demented when I had a curry - not good for the baby you know. And there are piles of things in every room in the house that she's setting aside for the baby.
Do you think the novelty will wear off soon or does this young mother offensive just intensify with time?

my 4yr old dd1, keeps askign when the baby is coming. we told her it should be here when her own birthday is (march 8th, baby due on 4th). she has infoemed me she is going to share her room, toys and she will love the baby. everyday she asks at least one question about the baby.

DD is wrong .. chocolate is very good for baby (its been scientifically proved)

just teach her that the best things for baby are lots of rest for mummy, lots of chocolate for mummy, lots of help for mummy

Cab, glad to see things are going well!

Hiya Tex and thanks - I keep spotting you on other folks' threads but seemed rude to 'gatecrash'. How are you?

LOL Twiglett - looks like I'm going to have to have one rule for her (choc=bad) and another for me (choc = important part of the diet).

Misdee we could have trouble ahead. Think dd is going to explode with excitement well before May and after May it could all be a huge disappointment - especially if we don't hand the babies over at birth never to be seen again!

She's just 'led' me up the hall saying now walk slowly mummy you don't want to hurt the baby. If I call her darling now she darling's me right back cos she no longer sees me as mummy - just a baby carrier!!

I wasn't joking about the scientifically proven chocolate munching:

"Scientists at the University of Helsinki, Finland, asked more than 300 pregnant women to record their chocolate consumption and stress levels, according to a report in New Scientist magazine. When the babies were six months old, mothers rated their infants' behavior in various categories, including fear, soothability, smiling, and laughter.

Researchers found a positive association between the amount of chocolate the mothers had eaten, and the babies' behavior, the magazine reported. The babies born to women who had been eating chocolate daily during pregnancy were more active and "positively reactive," which is described as a measure that encompassed traits such as smiling and laughter.

The lead researcher was Katri Raikkonen, a professor at the University of Helsinki. She and her colleagues admit that they can't rule out the possibility that chocolate consumption and baby behavior are both linked with some other factor; but the effects they observed could have resulted from chemicals in chocolate being passed to the baby."

That is brilliant news Twiglett . Think I'll have to read this out to dd.
