What are pregnant women meant to do after July 19th?

Just that really. If you don’t have both doses of vaccine are you planning on getting on with life as much as you can or are you planning on sticking with a more restricted lifestyle? And if you do have both doses, do you still feel vulnerable?

Are pregnant women still classified as clinically vulnerable?

I'm 28 weeks and have had one vaccine dose only back in Jan before I found out I was pregnant. Planning to have the other dose when baby arrives. I'm going to be WFH from Monday for the rest of my pregnancy (starting mat leave at 37 weeks). NHS clinician but can easily work from home doing virtual appts with patients. I'm not going to be socialising much over the Summer as otherwise it's a pisstake requesting to WFH in third trimester - will see some friends outdoors only really and just close family indoors.

baldafrique · 07/07/2021 20:51

(Defo feel more vulnerable going into third trimester and want to avoid chances of catching it as much as possible esp as birth nears)

redandwhite1 · 07/07/2021 20:55

I've just found out so not told my boss yet but we're due back in august and one of our first meetings I'll be telling him so interested to see his thoughts / company policy

leftitlate37 · 07/07/2021 21:00

had both doses and if am honest dreading relaxing of rules on 19th and wishing relaxing of masks wasnt happening.v happy to see such low deaths etc, but cases clearly rocketing and implications of long covid known but options for people suffering really unclear and varied.
we do lateral flows for work and dont have a full office so im continuing to go in, altho if suddenly everyone has to go back after 19th, ill still be requesting to WFH. double jabbed doesnt mean u defo wont catch it or get ill (look at andrew marr) so wont be going in busy places, doing food shops online etc.

Moominmiss · 07/07/2021 21:06

I’m 29+2 and had my first dose at 23 weeks. I work in a school so break up for the holidays next Friday so won’t be in work again as my maternity leave kicks in at the start of September.

Im due my second dose mid august when I’ll be 35 weeks, but that’s if they leave it the full 12 weeks. I’m hoping I can get it at 8 weeks which will be the 21st july.

I don’t feel any more vulnerable and whilst I will continue being careful and wear a mask if I feel somewhere is busy or crowded, I will largely carry on as normal through the summer.

Nat4392 · 07/07/2021 21:09

Getting on with life as normal! Granted I’ve just had my baby but even when pregnant I had the same opinion. Pregnant people don’t hide at home every winter when the flu resurfaces.

Lemonnhoney · 07/07/2021 21:13

I’m going to get vaccinated.. and maybe be more careful? But my older child will starting school in September, I’m due in Dec so quite aware that I don’t have much control and can’t stop him getting it.

I’m not too worried though, but not a health anxious person…

8dpwoah · 07/07/2021 21:15

I've got my second jab shortly so will be as covered as I can be not long after the restrictions lift. I stop work that week too (although mostly WFH anyway) so will stick with what I've been doing- wearing mask, using plenty of hand san, being careful about indoors mingling (have had no desire to go to restaurants or pubs anyway so that's helped!).
I do want to take DD to a particular indoor attraction as we won't be able to go easily with a second child for a long while, but I'm going to see how I feel before I book it. I'm just very grateful I've managed to get both doses in before my third trimester but equally I won't be changing much from what we've been doing so far as it seems to have worked for me so far!

glow92 · 07/07/2021 21:19

Personally, I can't wait to have some normally and enjoy my summer of pregnancy... it's not like I'll be going to hugely crowded events or festivals and will wear a mask if I feel like I should in shops etc. Just had my second dose of Pfizer at 22 weeks would even be keen to book a holiday if possible!

What we always do... try to take over the world

Chelyanne · 07/07/2021 21:27

Can't wait to bin off face mask, it makes me feel quite lightheaded in the shops these days. I have to find a quiet spot to take it off and have a few big breaths then back on it goes.

glow92 · 07/07/2021 21:28

normality*

AllTheCakes · 07/07/2021 21:31

I know more people than ever who are infected so I am dreading it tbh. Very thankful to be working from home for the rest of my pregnancy.

Jellybean8 · 07/07/2021 21:40

@nat4392 with respect, I don't think your comment is relevant as you're not currently pregnant. Also, covid isn't the same as flu, but even if you pretend it is just remember pregnant women get prioritised for the flu jab due to the increased risk.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/07/2021 21:46

@Moominmiss google walk in clinics near you. Near me they are offering walk in clinics for anyone 8 weeks from their first jab. You had your first jab on the same day as mine - I got my text this morning to book my second one so hopefully you’re not waiting for the full 12 weeks.

I’m only 18 weeks and had my first jab. I’ve been working from home anyway and keen to continue with that, even without pregnancy. I’m away for work tonight and staying in a hotel. There was a little bubble of anxiety but honestly part of the reason I got the jab and decided it was right for me was because I didn’t want to spend my summer isolated and not seeing people. I guess as I naturally don’t tend to be in busy places anyway, I won’t suddenly start seeking these areas out. I’m not going to suddenly spend the day shopping and I’m still more likely to spend my time outside. My family all live in high risk areas and I’m not planning on visiting them in that area but that’s because I’d have to visit a lot of people, so my risk goes up considerably. I’m happy with them visiting me as it spreads the exposure out. So probably still a little cautious but similar levels to before being pregnant.

Horehound · 07/07/2021 21:47

Were pregnant people ever classed as vulnerable?!
I'm 19 weeks with one dose of vaccine and have out and about as normal. 🤷

2020mission · 07/07/2021 21:49

I'm feeling quite lucky to be in Scotland at the moment... although they haven't announced final decisions it does sound like we will be keeping mask restrictions in places that are essential (public transport, shops). I completely get having to reopen places like pubs, restaurants, nightclubs, cinemas etc that have suffered massively and won't survive much longer with current restrictions and that's fine because these are very much places you can choose to go to but can easily avoid. It would make much more sense to keep the masks a little longer in places vulnerable people are forced to go to/use to get to work but relax it in those places that are personal choice.

I'm currently working from home and praying I can remain in this situation until my maternity leave at the end of the year. I'll be avoiding going inside any places like pubs, cinemas, theatres etc until after I have the baby. Masks all the way for me for now.

2020mission · 07/07/2021 21:53

@Horehound yes the pregnant are classed as clinically vulnerable due to our weakened immune system. I was recently called for jury duty and as soon as I told them I was pregnant and vulnerable, without question I was excused.

Nat4392 · 07/07/2021 21:56

@Jellybean8 it’s not like I’m talking hypothetically; I was pregnant just only weeks ago. I’ve not forgotten what my mindset was.

supersonicginandtonic · 07/07/2021 22:00

@Jellybean8 no she might not be pregnant now but she and I were pregnant during the last wave, when there were no vaccines for pregnant women, more hospitalisation and more deaths. So don't be so rude, her opinion is as valid as anybody else's. You can choose to continue to wear your mask and socially distance, even isolate if you want to.

Rosieposy89 · 07/07/2021 22:18

I am clinically vulnerable and 29 weeks. Only had one jab so planning to keep going out to an absolute minimum.

sarah13xx · 07/07/2021 22:32

So unfair, so glad I’m not in England and don’t have long left! I haven’t had my first vaccine yet so if I was in England I would just be shielding basically til my baby arrives 😕 It’s kind of forcing you to take both vaccines asap when I really didn’t feel comfortable doing that

Attheendofthedaywhenallsaid · 07/07/2021 22:33

i worry people are and will hide their babies and toddlers away/socially distance them etc. They will not have any healthy chances to pick up all the viruses/bacterias and therefore be more at risk of serious illnesses when they are older.

EssentialHummus · 07/07/2021 22:40

Expedited 2nd jab, carrying on as normal (ish) but trying to avoid large crowds etc. I have bad spd and can barely move already (twins) so it’s not like I was about to hit the town.

Can't wait to bin off face mask, it makes me feel quite lightheaded in the shops these days. I have to find a quiet spot to take it off and have a few big breaths then back on it goes.

… and this. I wear one, I do my best, but I’m constantly having to duck out and gulp air.

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/07/2021 22:49

I’m 37 weeks, unvaccinated. Hope baby comes soon but I’ll be taking extra precautions after the 19th.
