Mumma890 · 07/07/2021 13:52

Hi everyone, currently pregnant and not even 13 weeks yet and already suffered 3 bouts of thrush Blush doctor prescribes caneston and it only clears it for a few days and then it’s back!!! Does anyone have any ideas where I can make it go away forever?
Also do you think thrush could potentially indicate a little girl as I have heard oestrogen levels are super high for thrush to thrive Smile thanks everyone! Xx

Are they just prescribing the cream or the pessary too? Pessary (inserted manually rather than with the applicator) and cream are safe but the tablets aren’t.

Are you using any scented products or feminine hygiene products down there?

Mumma890 · 07/07/2021 15:12

Thank you for replying Smile yes they gave me a 3 day course of pessaries and I am now doing the same again but it seems to be getting worse and worse with treatment, it is driving me crazy!

I had thrush every other week for months when I was pregnant with my son.

I just ended up buying the cheap cream online in bulk and using the pessaries.

It was horrific at the time but it did stop eventually.

Mumma890 · 07/07/2021 15:51

Oh no so seems like I could have this for a while then :( luckily I get the cream and pessaries on free prescription, I did suffer with it mildly prior to being pregnant but was never this bad! Maybe I am just prone to them and even more so now x

Thinking about it… the cream actually stings and they have never tested whilst pregnant for thrush could it maybe be something else?? Not itchy but just burns and feels very uncomfortable 😣

Have you been tested for gestational diabetes? Not to worry you but I had GD with one of my pregnancies and though I never got thrush as bad as you're describing I do remember the doctor saying it often goes hand in hand.

3ormorecharacters · 07/07/2021 15:58

Also might be worth asking to get tested for Gestational Diabetes, as that can be linked. Ingot thrush repeatedly and my GP told me to ask my midwife about getting tested for GD. My midwife was very dismissive as I didn't have any other risk factors for GD, and said it's just "one of those things." Turns out I was diagnosed with GD after all, and not until 34 weeks so it wasn't well controlled. That said, it probably is just one of those things!

Mumma890 · 07/07/2021 16:10

That’s a good idea, they haven’t suggested that yet with being so early still but I will contact them ASAP and get it sorted, I had a lot of internal ultrasounds prior to 12 weeks due to complications so it could possibly be from the lube/ latex. Thanks again everyone Smile

I had thrush throughout the whole of my sons pregnancy literally every week!! I was so uncomfortable 😣 so I only sympathise with you lol.. I've not been too bad with this pregnancy and I'm having a girl I think I've had it once.. when I kept getting it with my son they told me not to use scented products on it and only clean with water so I've been doing that since they've told me I just put the shower head down there and wash it like that and it does help.. I can't even use bubble bath because it brings it on so I would avoid all of that and use the cream even after it's gone for a couple days after the pecarry just to be sure.. unfortunately I don't think it's one of them things you can get rid of forever and just one of them awful pregnancy symptoms that only a few suffer with!! Also wear only cotton underwear and nothing tight down there as heat lets the thrush thrive!! I didn't have gestational diabetes with my son and I get tested when I'm 28 weeks for it again as it runs in the family but well worth mentioning to your midwife about the thrush.. she might mention natural yogurt like mine did but I couldn't bring myself to do that 😂xxx

Mumma890 · 07/07/2021 16:39

Ahhh thanks lucy glad I am not the only one Grin it’s awful! Its making me really miserable! I’m thinking maybe the first bout didn’t fully clear and with the internal scans it’s stopped the pessaries from doing its job properly! Joys of pregnancy ay Grinxxx

I react to canesten, it stings and burns. Last time nurse prescribed Daktarin cream which wasn't as effective but helped reduce the itching. 3 day pessary helped as well. Perhaps explore the oral tablet if it's suitable while pregnant. Good luck
Mumma890 · 07/07/2021 18:13

Thank you, I have been told to stay away from the tablet only pessaries… maybe I will keep going with them and hopefully it does the trick 🙏🏼

I get thrush from time to time, pregnant or not, I usually associate it with eating more bread or cheese than usual.

Florarenniemackintosh · 07/07/2021 18:49

Hey @mumma890 I'm experiencing the same. I'm 18 weeks but have had it since week 13, too.

I've gone for some tests: my doctor said it could also be vaginosis. I dont live in uk so it's easy to get tested for things, but whatever it is, my doctor is going to give me something stronger than canestan. I had something over the counter before but it doesnt really solve the problem. I think you need to go back to the doctor and make them give you something more effective!!! But it sounds like from the other mums that it might be the whole way through, grim!

noscoobydoodle · 07/07/2021 19:01

Oh no I feel for you. My second pregnancy I had thrush the whole time- I was so itchy and sore! The creams were ok but I must have gone through a bucket load! I also tried almost every other old wives tale, including yoghurt which was quite frankly just messy! Give yourself plenty of fresh air down there, nothing scented, clean with luke warm plain water. I did have a girl incidentally, but I also have an older girl and a boy and never once had thrush when pregnant with either of them or in fact before or after ever again! I told my midwife repeatedly but was told it was quite common.

crobo87 · 07/07/2021 21:29

I had thrush 3 times within 5 weeks between 10-15 weeks. It was awful so I really feel for you.
My Gp ended up giving me a longer period of the pessaries but the same doesage if that makes sense. So instead of 3 days, I had a lower dose over 6 days and that seemed to clear it.
Also, if you haven't already get your partner treated. My partner didn't have any symptoms but I bought him the tablet anyway and touch wood I've been fine for the last 13 weeks 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Mumma890 · 08/07/2021 07:18

@Florarenniemackintosh oh no I hope you manage to get to the bottom of it Sad it’s awful isn’t it, I am going to go back and push for more tests! I honestly don’t think I am helping myself my favourite food at the moment is bread fruit and sweets so if it is thrush it is THRIVING to say the least Blush

@crobo87 @noscoobydoodle thank you both, I will try all of that. The doctors/ midwife don’t really seem to care as it’s “harmless” but it’s so frustrating the soreness and to think I am not even half way Blush I need this gone lol!

Thanks again everyone I will look into all of the above xxx
