Pregnancy and medication for chronic pain

Has anyone continued to take medication for chronic pain in pregnancy. I have hypermobility syndrome and before my first pregnancy came off all my medication including amitriptaline and Cocodamol. I had severe SPD on top of the pain and was miserable I found out at my last hospital appointment that I could have taken the pain medication all that time.

What should I do with my next pregnancy?

I will probably also be getting help for mental health as well as it is in my notes that I am likely to need this even though I am in a much better situation.

I know that the care I got in my last pregnancy was not very good. I am hoping it will be different as I am with a different hospital. What should I expect?

I've got arthritis and also now SPD, I was on tramadol but stopped when I found out I was pregnant (at 5 weeks), last week (at 19 weeks) I phoned my GP in tears and he has prescribed me 15mg of codeine but said to try not to use it!!

I've taken 1 tablet on 2 separate occasions this last week and that has been when I've been unable to move and been howling in pain.

I have also been referred to perinatal team (at 10 weeks) but am still on waiting list so haven't seen them yet.

I just wanted to say I know how hard it is and can be, my advice is to keep asking if you feel you're being ignored or fobbed off.

Hello - I was on the same medications as you all the way through my second pregnancy. I took co-codamol through my first.
Like you I had SPD, I explained to my midwife team and consultant and they had no problem with it.
The last meeting with a different midwife really upset me as she said my DS would probably have to go to the SCBU and would experience withdrawals - none of this happened.
He was born screaming his head of and hasn't shut up since.

I have osteoarthritis and spd but avoid painkillers as much as possible in pregnancy. They may say they are safe but I'd rather not risk it for baby unless the pain is unbearable. Developed a bad UTI last week and did use paracetamol to take the edge off the pain for a few days but off them as soon as pain was manageable again. I'm 34wk atm.

I told the maximum dose of cocodamol for almost my entire first pregnancy. At 30 weeks I very slowly started to wean off so that by 39 weeks I was only taking a half tablet a day.

I was prescribed morphine for my occipital neuralgia by the pain clinic. I've been told to limit its use but that it's safe to take.

Thank you. I am not sure if I would want to take them throughout the pregnancy but I would like the option of some painkillers.

I felt that I was just left to manage it all myself and that was really hard. I was meant to have physiotherapy but they lost my referral so I only got one session before he was born.

orlaquiver I had a similar situation with the pharmacist which the drugs I was prescribed for hyperemersis.
