C-section vs induction for a big baby

Hello,

Would love to know if any of you have been advised to choose between having a C-section or an induction due to your baby measuring on the 'big' side.

Which did you choose and why, and how did you find the experience?

Thank you so much x

I chose a c-section. I felt it was the safest option for me and baby. I did think long and hard, the recovery of a c-section was intense but worth it. I wasn't happy with the risks of shoulder dystocia and I'd heard negative experiences of induction and I didn't feel it was right for me.

The consultant said during my c-section that is made the right decision, she didn't elaborate further on why.

Baby was 10lb 1oz at 39 weeks.

Im pregnant again and having a csection but this time this is due to big baby, placenta previa and breech.

C-section all the way here, I had heard too many horror stories of induction taking forever/not working/ending up with an emergency CS anyway. The scans can be absolute rubbish, a lot of people aren't carrying a particularly big baby at all but in my case the scan under-estimated and he was over 11lb.

I chose induction and it was a loooooong process & I ended up needing ventouse & stitches.

Given the option again, I'd probably consider a section. In the end my son was born on his due date and weighed 7lb 8oz so the weight prediction was waaaay off!

I chose induction because I had already had a vaginal birth and a c-section and I really didn't like the c-section. I found induced labour with my almost 10lb baby easier than spontaneous labour with my almost 7lb baby except for the last little bit, but that was probably because his hand was in an awkward position so I needed an episiotomy.

Thanks for all the insight everyone! It kicked off naturally in the end and resulted in a forceps delivery - so would definitely be tempted for a planned c-section if there's a next time. But our beautiful baby is healthy and well, so cannot complain! Xx
