Tens machine - worth it?

FTM due in 5 weeks, I've been going backwards and forwards on getting a Tens machine, just looking for a few more opinions on if they're worth it for labour or not?

Planning a water birth if that makes a difference, so will only be using it before I'm in the pool.

I bought one and found it useful, just make sure you put it on as soon as you can. I left it too late really and didn't get the full effectiveness. If anything it makes you feel a bit more in control of whats happening.
If the price is putting you off you could consider selling it on or hiring it out when you're done. I used mine 2 years ago and it has since been used by 5 or 6 of my friends! I always make sure to offer it to my pregnant friends.

100% yes.

akajwnd · 05/07/2021 21:51

I also sold mine on afterwards.

Nannylp · 05/07/2021 21:51

Fyi its also quite fun testing it out on your partner

PandemicPalava · 05/07/2021 21:51

Loved mine. Gave me something to focus on

akajwnd · 05/07/2021 21:52

I put it on my arm and could cope with 1/2 before labour, in labour I had it on maximum with boost setting on as well 😂

Heyha · 05/07/2021 21:53

Yes, I thought it was woo but gave it a go and found it really useful when I was having low grade stuff going on during my induction. I got an epidural when the drip went in so can't speak for when proper labour kicked in but it did help take the edge off over the three days I was hanging about waiting for action. It's in the cupboard ready for if/when I have another!

NestinginNL · 05/07/2021 21:53

This is seeming very unanimous so far 😂

Definitely. It was the only pain relief I used with my second. As said before it gives you something to fix on - I was adjusting it as the contractions came and went.

CoffeeChocolateGin · 05/07/2021 22:11

I found them useful as a distraction. I didn't feel that my pain was eased but it shifted my focus away from the pain and to the feeling of the TENS machine.

GroggyLegs · 05/07/2021 22:13

I thought the TENS was crap, until I took it off and actually it had been helping quite a lot Confused

I also zapped myself ripping it off without turning it off first - I was a bit weird during labour.

ThatWouldBeEnough · 05/07/2021 22:18

Absolutely yes!

Used in both labours - I found it reduced the pain and was a good distraction too

Horehound · 05/07/2021 22:22

Deffo. I found it so helpful in the time you're in labour but before you go to hospital. It doesnt happen like the movies! You have to wait until a certain point before going in so up until then you will need something!!

firefly123 · 05/07/2021 22:28

Definite yes. Both my children born with help of Tens machine and no other pain relief!

Peach01 · 05/07/2021 23:46

I lived mine. Nothing touched back contractions like it, immediate relief.

Peach01 · 05/07/2021 23:46

Loved.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 05/07/2021 23:48

I found it really useful. I hired mine though which was the norm when I had my kids.

eenymeenymineymo · 06/07/2021 00:04

And for post baby help I've found a Tens machine is amazing for sciatic pain. Smile

AngeloMysterioso · 06/07/2021 00:18

Mine definitely was!
