2nd Pfizer vaccine in first trimester

Sorry it's another covid post but has anyone had their 2nd Pfizer vaccine in first trimester? I had my first in may and im only 4 + 3 so I don't think I can wait until my 2nd trimester because that's outside of the 12 week window. Has anyone received advise from their midwife on this?

I'll be due my second Pfizer near the end of my first trimester when it'll be 8 weeks since my first dose. I intend on getting the second vaccine after 8 weeks or earlier if I get the chance to. My gp hasn't had any issues with that and I have yet to meet my midwife, will be interested to hear what she says but I've pretty much made up my mind that I want it asap!

Sorry I'm not answering your question but wanted to say that I'm in the same position.

I recommend watching this if you haven't already

katewitch · 05/07/2021 19:35

They're now saying to have it as normal for your age group. I've just found out today so am 4+0 and have my 2nd dose booked for next week. I'll have it because I believe it to be perfectly safe and am scared of getting covid while pregnant!

decafforme · 05/07/2021 19:37

I'm due mine next week which is only 8 weeks after the first and I'll be 11 weeks. I was thinking about asking to move it back a wheel or two but I'm in two minds as I had the first one in the first trimester early on (not knowing I was pregnant) and all was fine, had early scan since then. I haven't asked my midwife directly about the second but when we discussed the first at my booking in appointment she was pleased I'd had it and said no need to delay.

Peachi82 · 05/07/2021 20:00

My consultant said to go ahead and if I notice a raised temperature to take Paracetamol.
My turn on Friday this week.

GemLooper · 15/07/2021 11:24

I've now been invited so it is 8 weeks since my first). I'm 5+6 and just called the midwife. She said that as a midwife she would recommend waiting until after 1st trimester. Such a difficult decision but I think I will wait.

My midwife said to have my second dose as soon as possible. I said I was booked for next week (8 weeks pregnant) and asked if I should delay it to the second trimester, but they said they would advise against delaying. I also had a telephone consultant with the vaccination nurse at our local GP and they said the same thing.

On Radio 4 today, the College of Midwives were encouraging pregnant women to go for their jabs. This on the BBC website today: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57840159

It's very frustrating that we're getting such mixed messages. I am in London and older (39) so that does make me feel a bit more at risk.

cunningplan101 · 15/07/2021 11:55

But the the video on the BBC website does say if you feel more comfortable waiting for the second trimester, then it's ok to do that. I think if cases weren't climbing so quickly and 'Freedom day' wasn't approaching, I prob would wait.

With my first Moderna vaccine (just before getting pregnant), I didn't have much of a reaction so I'm hoping it will be ok with the second. I'll take paracetamol just in case to prevent fever as I think that is prob the main risk in the first trimester. I think it'll just be such a relief to have it out of the way, and hopefully make me feel less nervous about going to the hospital for scans and seeing family and friends etc.

IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 15/07/2021 12:15

I had my first when I was technically one week pregnant. I'm waiting till I'm 4/5 months to have the second. Yes, Covid rates are rising, but unless you are planning on going clubbing a lot then I think it's really easy to manage your own risks, and I just don't feel comfortable doing it in the first trimester.

SunAndSea37 · 15/07/2021 12:40

I'm 6 weeks and booked for my second jab on Monday. I really don't know what to do. I feel extremely uncomfortable having it in the first trimester but if I wait then I'll be well out of the window for the 12 week gap.

Does anyone know if you can get the data from the US broken down by trimester? I know c.100k pregnant women have had it but I suspect they are mainly 2nd/3rd tri?

mumofmunchkin · 15/07/2021 12:51

I'm getting my 2nd jab at 7 weeks pregnant next week. I'm concerned by the rising cases and the lifting of restrictions next week.

mumofmunchkin · 15/07/2021 12:52

Just to add, I have 2 kids in school, one in nursery and a teacher for a husband so my indirect exposure is pretty high, which is definitely a concern. I can't just hide myself away.

Anonapapple · 15/07/2021 12:54

I've had both during the first trimester.

GemLooper · 15/07/2021 13:42

@SunAndSea37 I think the problem is that the Pfizer jab was only approved in the US in December so there is almost no data connected with vaccines in first trimester (regarding effect on baby) as there hasn't been time for those people to give birth yet!! Definitely not trying to scaremonger at all but it's just such a difficult thing to judge. I'm pretty sure it's safe but at the moment I'm planning to wait (my first trimester ends at the end of next month). We have agreed to reassess this if the numbers in my area sky rocket though.

@cunningplan101 I agree that it's really frustrating to get mixed messages. I'm 35 so definitely not a spring chicken. Also live in a small town where numbers are low (plus WFH) although I do have a child at nursery. Given all this, I'm going to try to wait out the first trimester and then get it ASAP.

Just had my 2nd vaccine at 5 weeks gestation today, despite being very nervous (first/only baby, I'm high risk for loss and it's taken multiple IUI's and IVF's to get this far). I work from home so I was going to wait till after the 2nd trimester but cases are rising in my area and I'm nervous about Freedom Day making it worse.

A GP recommended it, other health professionals only said it was up to me but I think the stress of avoiding all family and friends (who I don't want to tell I'm pregnant yet) might be worse than the risk of a potential low fever from the vaccine - I only got a sore arm from the 1st jab and currently just have the same again.

But unfortunately there is no clear evidence and each medical professional seems to feel differently/give different advice!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/07/2021 23:12

should say was planning to wait until after 1st trimester!

Hi! I had my second Pfizer shot at bang-on 4 weeks. Baby has been measuring fine, even a bit ahead. I’m 11 weeks now.
For what it’s worth, my second shot was actually a bit easier than my first, and I didn’t get a fever, much fatigue, or any flu-like symptoms. Just. Very crampy shoulder.

ChaiTRex · 16/07/2021 20:25

Oops! I should mention that I didn’t even ask my doctor… I found out the day before my appointment and discussed with my husband.
We’re in the US - Delta variant is spreading, loads of people refuse to get vaccinated, and a lot of stuff is reopening. All the data I had seen here said it was worth the risk, and there’s even a possibility that baby will get a teensy bit of immunity too.

Doctor asked if I had been vaccinated at my ten week scan and I told her yes and when. She looked a bit surprised and said “well at least that’s taken care of!”
She did advise that I continue to wear a mask indoors in businesses to reduce Delta risk as pregnant women are more at risk of COVID complications and the vaccine is slightly less effective for that variant.
