I need advise regarding breastmilk supply. I was expressing around 500ml breastmilk every day. I became sick few days back and was not able to express much now my breastmilk supply is v low like 150 or even less a day. Is there anything i can do to boost it or it will never be same. Because now formula is giving to much gas to my baby and he is very fussy now.

Put baby on breast more and it will build back up. If you give formula the baby won't take as much milk baby is more efficient than pumping and will bring it back up faster. Also eat lots of oats. Oat cookies are great

Can you have a couple of days in bed with baby, lots of skin to skin contact and lots of baby feeding? Your boobs will catch up if baby feeds a lot.

Yes, get baby on the breast. Also drink 3l of water a day and a sugary snack of choice twice daily

Were you feeding from the breast or solely expressing before you got ill?

How old is your baby?

Skin to skin, in bed, in the bath, as often as possible. Eat well, loads of water. High carb stuff like flapjacks, pasta etc. It takes work and hydration to make milk.

Are you taking a multivitamin? It won’t make a difference to milk per se but it’ll help you and your immunity generally.

Are you continuing to express once the milk has stopped coming out? That’ll help build supply.

Are you completely better now?

Like PP said, oats are considered good for breastfeeding as is Barley. So get some orange barley water in. If baby can breastfeed directly that is Best but if not then do lots and lots of breast massage before pumping and apply heat for 5 mins before, that will help you express more. And just keep at it. It's as simple as supply and demand. If you demand it, the boobs will supply more. Try not to supplement with formula if at all possible. My friend had a couple of days not feeding and her supply went right down, but she got it back and kept feeding for months after.

Drink loads, try and relax and if you are exclusively pumping, try ‘power pumping’ to replicate cluster feeding which baby will do to up your supply. If baby will latch and feed then just have a few quiet days in bed feeding and relaxing. As others have said try not to use formula but put baby on the boob.

Depending on the age of your baby this can be totally normal. It means your milk supply has regulated. In the early days, you produce loads of excess milk and then at some point it settles down. Naturally, this can be alarming but it's all good. If you do need to increase pumping output this article has some tips.

Breastfeeding is based on demand ie if your baby "puts in an order" for milk by feeding as much as they want to then your breasts will produce more to meet their demand. So all you need to do is to feed your baby from your breast when they want to feed by looking out for their feeding cues and/or offering it regularly.

Pumping will also help to increase supply. But don't be surprised if your pumping output decreases as the baby gets older this is totally normal and doesn't mean you have stopped producing enough milk for the baby it just means your breasts are in tune with your babies needs.

If you can direct nurse, put baby to boob as often as you can and pump after.

If you were exclusively pumping, you could try power pumping? What pump are you using? How old are the parts? They might need replacing. Have you used heat, i found microwave heat packs helped output, also a sock over the bottle to take the pressure off volume. How old is baby? Milk supply settles around 6/10 weeks so some people notice a dip then, especially if they have been ‘over producing’ xx
