Exercise - smart hula hoop

Hi everyone,

Just found out I'm pregnant so pretty early.

Before I found out I was about to order a smart hula hoop (the one that's like a belt with the weight attached) as I've been meaning to try and get back in shape.

I want this more so now being pregnant as I gained a lot of weight with my first and want to try and stay active and healthy (not easy when my aversions were everything healthy - hoping it's chocolate this time 😂)

So my question is I know normal hula hooping is fine in pregnancy but any idea if these are safe in pregnancy?

Thanks in advance :)

I wouldn't waste money on that now you're going to have an expanding waistline.

I powerlift and couldn't wear my lifting belt after 8wk, firstly due to bloat then because of rapidly growing bump. Not been in the gym for over 2 weeks now though as I've not been too well, 33+5wk atm. Will make the effort once I've finished my antibiotics though.

How much do the swinging things weigh I’d be worried about getting hit in the bump with them.
Just do the hula motion without the hoop save yourself some money.

Not sure how much the smart hula hoop you've seen weighs, but I know the FitnessHula weighs 1.25kg. Great and fun workout for after baby comes but wouldn't recommend using it while pregnant.

Try to stay healthy while pregnant. Once baby arrives and you get the green light from your doctor about starting to exercise, then you can start working out! Smile

I started using one, and ignored the ‘build up gradually’ advice. I developed huge bruises around my torso.

Not sure I’d want to use one whilst pregnant.

Sorry, I used a weighted hula hoop, not the one in the picture.

I'd say don't buy it - not because it's bad but because it's awful.

I got one as it saved space compared to my old weighted hoop. I'm now getting rid and going back to one of those.

I'd say it's safer though, as the hoop itself doesn't move so really it's just you wiggling around ineffectively

Yes, you definitely have to build up gradually when using weighted hula hoops.

There's actually a hula hoop work out guide which is really effective. In case anyone is interested, I'll post it here if I find it :-)
