12 weeks pregnant - at my wit's end and need cheering up :(

So it seems I have finally made it to 12 weeks, however, bang on cue, here to ruin any enjoyment and relaxation on my part, I have period cramping :( Began a few days ago and is persistent. I had a scan on Tuesday and I can still pick up the HB on my doppler (yes, I'm 100% sure it's the HB - I'm anxious but not tachycardic!). I saw the chiropractor this morning and he noticed that one of my hip bones was 'locked' so unlocked it :) And that felt momentarily better.

The pain is in my lower back (this is a period style ache) and sometimes a sharper pain on the left side of my groin.

I have my screening scan on Monday but that seems a world away. Has anyone been here and able to offer advice. FYI the pain is most obvious when I am immobilised but disappears once I've relaxed (like overnight) and paracetamol takes the edge off it.

Anyone?

Could just be your body expanding.

I wouldn't use a doopler when you're not trained too.
Midwifes themselves don't use tend to use until 16 weeks.

Also this early you're placenta actually sounds like a heartbeat so I wouldn't rely on it.

Thank you. Yes, using it out of desperation and it provides some comfort.

I had cramping and all sorts in my pregnancy. Your uterus is expanding and that can feel not dissimilar from period cramps early on. Round ligament pain was fun from 12 weeks! Try not to worry, as you say you have a scan on Monday so hopefully all will be well. I wouldn't use a doppler though, it's far too easy to pick up other sounds that you could mistake for the heartbeat.

Confused521 · 03/07/2021 15:25

Thanks Danoodle 😊

The doppler is helpful to me at the moment because there is no other reassurance available! If I couldn't find a hb there is nothing I can do about it and the takeaway for me is that it's probably hiding. If I find it, it's reassuring. I have used one in each of my pregnancies and am confident in what I'm hearing (the placenta sounds very different to the baby). Fingers crossed for the scan on Monday I guess.

I remember the worry of all sorts of pains when I was pregnant. The dagger up the vagina was one I didn’t read about in the books !
Try and keep busy so that Monday seems to come sooner 💐

Confused521 · 03/07/2021 15:32

Thanks Diana. That sounds painful!

Sounds a little like round ligament pain. I had plenty of period style pains in my first pregnancy (in fact it often felt like someone had kick me directly in the vagina). Second pregnancy I have had more of the above on the left side. The chiropractor actually finding something significant (which a frozen hip certainly is) suggests your body is working hard right now to accommodate the growing baby.

The main thing is, please try and stay relaxed. A nice steady heartbeat is important for baby too. If all else, get a private scan. They really aren't that expensive for the piece of mind they give.

Confused521 · 03/07/2021 16:02

Thanks! Trying so hard to relax, believe me! My scan is on Monday so not too long to wait.

Hope all is OK, OP. Good luck for Monday.

I know others have said it but as your pregnancy progresses, please don't rely on the doppler for reassurance. My baby had reduced movement at 31 weeks, when I went to get checked, they found the heartbeat straight away and I instantly relaxed. However, he was extremely poorly and needed to be delivered within the hour. Had I used a doppler at home, I would have found the heartbeat and relaxed and not gone to get checked out. I do think they are dangerous to rely on for eassurance although I understand why in these early stages you would worry. It would be so much easier if we had a little window to check everything is OK

Are you very petite? I had all sorts of horrible pains in early pregnancy with my first, and my GP mentioned it was usually small ftm's that reported these pains...

I am indeed but I am a third time mum. Last baby was born 9 years ago!
