Cobid vaccine at 16 weeks?

14 replies

Melvin2021 · 02/07/2021 10:34

I am wondering what everyone thinks about receiving the covid vaccine at 16 weeks. Due to the date from the US I am keen to get my vaccine as the risks of catching covid sound awful in the third trimester. Not to mention when all this kicked off I was really ill and will never beable to prove it was covid but I had been on holiday so I'm sure it was and it was bad enough when it was just me! Any advice would be appreciated !

I got my first dose at 17 weeks, can't see why not? You're out of the first trimester, no point putting it off.

I know its probably abit daft to be fair I'm not going to put it off I'm going to get it thanks for the reassurance. I just think I needed to hear of someone having it at a similar time.

I had my first at 18 weeks all was fine on the 20 week scan.
Had my second yesterday at 24 weeks

If you think you’ve had it, this article, supported by a novel prize winning scientist in South Africa, explains that you will have natural immunity (just like you will have gained natural immunity from other viruses and bacterial infections that you have so far survived).

@Kona84
@Horehound thankyou both for sharing.

@Lostinacloud thanks. I can never prove that it's what I had so I wouldn't like to take the chance.

im 16weeks and after chatting to my midwife this week, i will get it after the 20week anomoly scan.

Curiosity101 · 02/07/2021 17:46

I would happily have had it anytime after 12 weeks personally. After 16 weeks is when they recommend the Whooping cough vaccine though so I think anytime after that sounds great ☺️

I had mine as soon as I was able based on my age group so was already 25 weeks pregnant. I'm hoping to have my second dose in the next few weeks 👍.

Melvin2021 · 02/07/2021 18:04

@bunnypenny did your midwife recommend you wait until after 20 weeks ot is it just the way it's working out for you?

@Curiosity101 that's great that you'll be fully vaccinated soon!

Had my first jab at 19 weeks abs second at 25 weeks. Midwife and GP were pro me having it.

Also have a friend who had her 25 weeks and 33 weeks and has given birth to a perfect little girl which reassured me.

SouthwestSis · 02/07/2021 18:21

Had my first jab in the first trimester and will be having my second in the second.
Antibodies from catching covid naturally don't stick around so it's perfectly possible to catch covid for a second time and get sick so you're absolutely right to want protection before you get to the third trimester!

Melvin2021 · 02/07/2021 18:29

@Missreginafalange that's great news about your friend and her baby!

@SouthwestSis yes thats absolutely what I'm wanting to be fully vaccinated before the dangerous stage! I was told the antibodies only last afew months so every chance I could get it just as bad again if it was covid and I certainly want to avoid that !

My midwife said her personal preference would be after the first trimester and first scan. I don’t think there is data for any particular time so it’s just a judgment call for each midwife and some of that is when she would be personally be happy with it.

I had mine at 12 weeks and I’m thinking about ringing the GP and seeing if they’ll give me my second just before 8 weeks so I can time both jabs between my scans. But that’s just my personal preference to know everything is ok. I think 16 weeks is a good time, you have your scan at 20 weeks to confirm everything is OK and then if you can get your second jab at 8 weeks after the first, you’ll be 24 weeks and so fully vaccinated before 28 weeks. You can also get your whooping cough in between or a few weeks after your second covid and still be in the ideal time for whooping cough.

bunnypenny · 02/07/2021 19:38

@Melvin2021 she suggested that (as with Whooping Cough vaccine) we could wait till after 20 week scan so that it was clear that the vaccine hadn’t caused any physiological side effects. It was entirely up to me though, I could book an appt tomorrow if I wanted, but I’ll wait till after the scan.
