I’m 19 weeks pregnant and not vaccinated. I haven’t decided 100% either way yet and I keep going round in circles. Cases are going up and I know that deaths and hospitalisations are low which is great so I understand why they would want to unlock. But am I the only one getting a bit anxious because of being unvaccinated and pregnant?

Yes, I'm pregnant and concerned about being around other people especially when masks are no longer compulsory. I had my first vaccine whilst TTC and I've put off my second. I wanted to get through the first trimester before having the second as if anything happened I would blame myself. I have also been feeling quite poorly with nausea and exhaustion, so wasn't keen on introducing something to make me feel worse. Although I didn't have many symptoms after the first vaccine.

I will be 16 weeks pregnant the week before the restrictions are lifted, so I am going to have my second vaccine then. Covid can be very serious in pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, so I want to protect myself and our baby.

I am nervous too and haven't 100% decided yet.

Preferably I would like to wait until after birth to start my covid jabs. However, COVID can be a very serious risk in the third trimester/at the time of birth, for both mum and baby. This is what is swaying me towards getting it done.

I am currently 9+5 and am adamant I won't get it in the first trimester, as the development of the baby, but am looking to get mine first jab when I go into the second trimester, probably around 14 weeks (end of July time), and then hopefully get the second jab not long after.

I wasn't worried at all in the past year with COVID, just took precautions like everyone else. As I have a really good immune system and rarely ever get ill. However, now being pregnant has definitely made me worry more about catching COVID and am being extra cautious, hence my view swaying to wanting to get vaccinated over waiting.

But of course it is whatever you feel is best for you and your baby. Just be mindful of the risks to you and baby in the 3rd Tri Flowers

Thanks both, I was exactly the same about covid before getting pregnant and not concerned at all. But now with the complications it can cause in the third trimester it is scaring me. I would rather not have the vaccination but with the way things are going I feel like I have no choice so that we are protected.

I had no choice of being vaccinated when we TTC but part of me wishes we’d waited to avoid this impossible dilemma!

Hi there, I would really encourage you to consider getting vaccinated. The risks to you and your baby if you were to catch covid, particularly in the third trimester (and even more so if you have GD or pre-eclampsia) are known, they are real and they are significant. Having the vaccine carries no known risks, so far the data has shown no adverse outcomes in a very large number of pregnant women, and there is no medical reason why any new theoretical risks would exist. As a nice bonus, it’s been demonstrated that the baby is born with antibodies Smile Of course it is your decision, but on the balance of risks, every medical professional recommends vaccination. The delta variant is estimated to be 60% more transmissible, and may cause more serious disease, so if restrictions are lifted then the risk of catching it will exist unless you completely lock yourself away from the world.
