Hysterical crying

Hi

So, I cry like a child. Literally. I don't know why. I can't control it and I have been like this all my life.

Over the past 2 days I've cried a lot due to stress at work/manager.

I'm really concerned about any harm to my baby. Can anyone reassure me?

I would love to contact my midwife but I have no details for her.

you won't harm baby, as such, by crying. bloody hormones eh?

but stress is not really good for you or baby in general so call your GP or your hospital to find out who you should talk to.

probably best to get your blood pressure checked.

Right? Damn hormones are tearing me apart 😂 I've only just got over eczema around my eyelids and the crying is causing flare ups all round my face again!

Nightmare!

aww, you poor thing!

start watching some comedy programmes!
they won't solve your problems but are likely to improve your mood.

I'm rewatching Scrubs on Disney+ because I'm so tired I just need that goofy humour to pick me up.

make sure you call someone though, ok?

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba thank you! I will for sure try the comedies!

Yeah I'll try contact GP I think and see what they say.

Thanks for making me feel better x

I was frequently hysterical during my first trimester; like uncontrollable hysteria over all kinds of things. The hormones made me loopy. It’s why I won’t have a second child, to be honest. I don’t want to chance I’ll be the same- it wouldn’t be fair on my DS now.

ExDP once said to me “you know you’ll hurt the baby carrying on like that” - which of course had the opposite effect and made me 10x worse... (there’s a reason he’s ex...)

Anyway. I spoke to my midwife. Do you know what she said?

She said the studies on the effects of cortisol (stress hormone) on babies, have by and large raised concerns about babies born to women in (eg) war zones. Refugee camps. Women living under extreme threat of violence etc. Severe domestic abuse etc.

Not women who are having occasional- or even bloody daily- crying jags/ hysterical fits of sobbing because of pregnancy hormones or whatever.

Don’t get yourself in a tizz about this- your baby will be fine. Their lives hinge on more than the 9 months in your stomach. It’s about how they’re loved after they’re born. How you nurture and nourish them. How secure they feel in the social structures that surround them. And the rest.

So- Please don’t set yourself up for18 years of guilt. That’s where this will go. Because there are no perfect mothers, pregnancies or childhoods. Only a lot of women doing their fucking best, and that’s good enough. You- even with the crying- are good enough. You are already a good mother. Take heart!
