Your experience of reduced movements

I'm trying to work out what to do. I'm 28 weeks and feel like movements have changed in thelast 48 hours. I'm still getting plenty but more muffled and actually have to pay attention to them. Baby has been so active up until then I never had to worry, I would sit there as my belly bounced up and down.

So I'm actually really worried but if I lay down and pay attention I do get plenty of movements so would they actually do anything if I went to get checked? I read that they check heartbeat, urine, and measure bump and only do ultrasounds if the measurement is off or its a high risk pregnancy (mine isnt). Considering I saw my midwife yesterday and all these checks were fine, is there any point going to get checked?

Is it likely that baby just changed position if I still have plenty of movements but they are just not as strong and not visible?

If you're concerned about movements, and that includes a change in pattern of movements, not just absence of movements, then please go and get checked out.

The midwives would rather see many women for whom it was a false alarm, than miss the one for whom it was an indicator that something was going wrong.

Greenmarmalade · 30/06/2021 14:54

Absolutely go.

HereWeGoAgain24 · 30/06/2021 14:58

Please go and get checked. They will tell you themselves they would rather you go in and get checked Smile
To put it bluntly, it's just not worth the risk but if everything is fine then that's great which it usually is!

Thank you I think I will call. I just worry that if they just check how much baby is moving they will think I am wasting their time as it does move plenty but I swear it's so different. I also have a heavy feeling low down but again it could just be because the cheeky monkey has moved. But I'm also getting more BH than usual. Are you sure they won't be mad at me? I usually only see my GP when on my deathbed as I'm always so worried about being a nuisance...

I’d ring your assessment centre and see what they say. I went in yesterday with reduced movements and they hooked me up to a monitor. Within 15 mins I was confirmed as all fine but they weren’t annoyed at me for going! They told me to go in after all

Sleepyquest · 30/06/2021 15:12

They definitely won't be mad with you!!! Give them a call

They definitely won't be mad at you, after all that's what their job role is, to care for you and baby Smile When I had reduced movements with DS, I was really worried but as soon as I got there he started acting totally normal and giving me huge kicks 😂 I was a bit embarrassed but kept telling them "I swear I wasn't lying, he really wasn't moving much!" They just laughed and said it happens a lot. Babies are funny little souls in there 😂

Update the thread OP, hope everything is fine Smile

Please don't be scared @Worriedmummy152 or feel like you are wasting anybody's time by phoning and going in!

I remember with my first the one day I had reduced movements, I never went in as baby soon started moving once I lay on my left side etc, however, all day and night I kept thinking about that moment. You will feel so much better once you call Flowers x

Worriedmummy152 · 30/06/2021 15:22

Thank you I called and was hoping to chat through it to let them know baby is moving plenty and see if they still wanted me to go in but she didn't let me getthat far and just said "if you are worried just come in! See you when you get here!" So I guess it's good as it sounds like it's no trouble but I can feel baby kicking away now so I'm nervous I'll look stupid !

On the plus side if all is well at least it will help me relax after a couple of anxious days which can only help the baby.

I really miss my "earthquake" baby, I took for granted how reassuring all this activity was! Now I just get the subtlest nudges...

glastogal · 30/06/2021 15:37

You won't look stupid, they honestly want to tell you it's all fine, as it is for probably 90% of the ladies that go in in your position. You don't want to be the cautionary tale though. Always go get checked!! I was in 5 times I think in my last trimester with my recent pregnancy.. and my first pregnancy? Well, I was almost the cautionary tale..

Mollylikestodance · 30/06/2021 15:42

You're doing the best thing going in, and in my experience the midwives never mind!!

Something a midwife said to me is that the term 'reduced movements' is really misleading and that actually it should be thought of as 'any change in movement' -- which includes the same amount of movements but for example less strong.

It's always worth it to double check and put your mind at ease
x

sweetiepie1 · 30/06/2021 16:47

If you're concerned about movements always go get checked out just incase, probably nothing but better to make sure! Hope all goes well Thanks

Worriedmummy152 · 30/06/2021 19:36

Thank you for all the kind messages and encouraging me to go. Everything is fine and they didn't mind at all, in fact they had no patients there at all so it was also great as I didn't need to wait.

She did take a while to find the heartbeat at first (which was nerve racking!) because baby is in a very awkward position tucked in a corner really low down which also explains the more subtle movements. It was transverse all across my belly before.

I feel absolutely exhausted, I hadn't fully realise how nervous I had been and now the pressure is gone I feel like I could sleep for days. Very relieved!

Glad you went in and got checked. I was going to say the issue was probably that the baby had moved position, especially if they flip as they're punching or kicking the other side of you so it feels so odd. BUT it's always best to be on the safe side x

HereWeGoAgain24 · 30/06/2021 20:09

So glad you're reassured OP! Great news, glad everything's ok with you and baby Grin

MrsFin · 30/06/2021 20:46

DD1 hardly moved at all in utero. She still doesn't move much at 20.

DD2 didn't stop moving from the time she was conceived - she's 17 now and still can't sit still.

Iris2020 · 01/07/2021 11:15

I'm happy everything is fine! The same thing happened to me - baby disappeared off the radar for 12h+ and I panicked.
I went in and it took the midwife a full 5 minutes to find the heartbeat and then she had to call in a second midwife to confirm. It was the worst 5 minutes of my life! Since then I've had a scan and all is fine.
