Breast pump before delivery??

Hi, this is new to my ears. But I was reading that getting the breast pump going before delivery can help kick start contractions (nipple stimulation). Has anyone elver tried this?

I'm 40 weeks +4 had 2 attempts at a sweep and no signs of labour yet. Also my boobs haven't really changed at all whilst being pregnant (except maybe a bit bigger) so bit scared of the breast pump in general... but heard some women have pumped milk before delivery so maybe worth a shot? 🤷🏻‍♀️

You don't pump milk before delivery, you can express colostrum into a syringe and collect for when baby is born. You could try just manual nipple stimulation rather than pumping

Exactly what @jupeBex said.

I was told hand expressing colostrum would help, didn't work for me as was induced on due date but it was handy having the syringes in the freezer as she was born with a tendancy to a sticky eye so was advised to use those to bathe it.

I did pump several times per day from 38 weeks to collect colostrum as I knew the baby was going to be very ill and needed surgery and wanted to get a head start. It was the only pregnancy were i spontaneously went into labour (at 39+1) and I think it was probably due to the stimulation caused by the pumping.
