Help, NHS occupational maternity pay

It says to get full pay “12 months continuous nhs service at the beginning of the 11th week before Expected week of childbirth, including 26 weeks with the trust continuing into the 15th week before Expected week of childbirth”

I started my job on 7th June.

I am trying to figure out date wise as an example, when I would qualify for this? I’m so confused

How many weeks pregnant are you?

expectinglittlebear · 29/06/2021 16:22

To me, that looks as though you would need to have 12 months of continuous nhs service before the 29th week of pregnancy and at least 26 weeks with the same nhs trust before the 25th week of pregnancy.

Not sure how along you are currently, but the fact you only started on 7th June (I assume this year) and are already pregnant (I assume), you wouldn't have 12 months service to qualify - unless you worked with the nhs before starting your new job.

So, firstly how many weeks pregnant are you? And were you working with the nhs also before you started your new job on 7th June?

I worked it out roughly that I needed to be at work for 6 months before getting pregnant, then I would have worked for the employer for 12 months by week 26

Thank you! Sorry I’m not pregnant just trying to wrap my head around it as I’m planning for future!

I’d probably give it 7 months after starting before trying in case baby is early! I started working at my nhs job in September and started trying for a baby in April :)

I take that as you need 12 months service at 29 weeks pregnant.

Counting back 29 weeks from 7 June is 16 November, so if you fell pregnant after that time (in theory) you should qualify for enhanced maternity pay if I've got my understanding correct!

I did the same thing as I moved jobs for better maternity pay (amongst other things) as my prior job was statutory only. We only started trying once I was sure I would qualify for for enhanced pay, which I did by about a week as things moved quicker than anticipated!

So if you are wanting to try, I recommend giving yourself some wiggle room after the date to ensure you will definitely get it if you fall pregnant quickly.

@Alarae thank you so much that makes sense! So to qualify for full NHS pay, I will need to have worked continuously after 16th November before I get pregnant?
