Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

If you had PGP once, did it recur in a subsequent pregnancy?

Just that, really. Bricking it. Worst (pointless) pain I've ever experienced that was repeatedly brushed off and left for me to deal with. I was lucky in regards to it going away straight after birth, though.

Whilst on topic, did anything help it significantly?

Pelvic partnership website. Find a good practitioner who does manual therapy (massage and manipulation).

I was on crutches by 25 weeks with my first. Housebound by

Sorry two year old hit post too soon!!

Housebound by 31 weeks. Found an osteopath at 6 months post parting as I still had issues.

Second pregnancy: sure I had pain. But by going to my osteopath every 2-3 weeks, no crutches and still mobile by the end.

Find a good pregnancy chiropractor or osteopath (a list of recommended practitioners on that website, but there are others out there too!!).

Yes, worse each time (3 pregnancies). Osteo weekly kept me off crutches.

@physicskate brill thank you, I'm going to look into it right away just in case. I didn't actually know what help I could have for it, it only got me in my third pregnancy from around 28 weeks, and my midwife just kept telling me "ohhh not to worry, only a few more weeks..." Hmm so I'm going to make sure I'm informed and prepared this time!

I had it really bad in my first pregnancy but not so much in second. However, baby was much smaller second time around so I don’t know is that might be why x

Oh sorry forgot to reply to your other question. I was referred to physio and given exercises and tubi grip to help. It helped if I didn’t get out of bed suddenly and shuffled along to the edge of the bed and slowly got up with both legs close together, also helped sitting down to get dressed. Basically doing certain tasks slowly and gently. It was horrendously sore in my first pregnancy though and I think it only really went away after birth x

Yes. But in third pregnancy I went to a women’s physio and it helped so much! The NHS physio was useless - didn’t touch me, not even to massage. The private physio manipulated me gently and realigned my hips. I did have NHS physio after giving birth and she was hands-on then, which was brilliant. But the private physio was invaluable when I was actually pregnant. I only needed two appointments, so it wasn’t that expensive. And definitely get a referral after you give birth to check everything went back into alignment.

Every pregnancy 2nd child onwards. Restricting range of mobility was the only thing to help, after our twins it lingered for over 2 years until I started powerlifting. This pregnancy I continued powerlifting until 31wk then then baby settled head down and my hips became extremely painful. I really want to get back in the gym but the pain simply walking has put me off for the past 2 weeks. I'm on my tod as dh is at sea so all dog walks are down to me and they take me twice as long now for the same distance, all housework/childcare and shopping with a full trolley is a killer but needs must. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis almost 4 years ago too so that adds to it too. I declined a physio referral as I just don't know how I'd manage to attend them around the kids and I know all the stuff they'd suggest anyway. Anything tight around my hips like bands make the pain worse.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 28/06/2021 11:07

First pregnancy I suffered towards the end. I'm currently 25 weeks and have to sit to change as I literally can't stand on one leg. Midwife said she could refer me for physio but there's a waiting list.. pointless really! Plan on getting myself a maternity belt to try and help when I'm running around after my 14 month old.
If you can find the time, like others have said, an osteopath is your best bet! X
